If you are of the type of the gamer who actually keeps abreast with daily world news besides gaming then you should not be a stranger to the BP Oil fiasco. According to reports, the amount of oil spilling in to the Gulf of Mexico stands at 25,000 barrels a day. Now how much is that in terms of quantity one might ask? We have got the answer for that. We got a video from Youtube which uses the Unreal Engine to render 25,000 barrels. Check it out, its pretty interesting."

Only a million gallons a day, not really that much. Its 140 364.583 cubic feet, or a cube with 51.9699756 foot sides. About as much oil as will fit in a two story house with a basement. Its only as big as it is because its about an inch thick instead of 51 feet thick

Also, that tower is only as tall as it is because there is a center piece in the middle and there is a lot of space between each level of barrels.

Propaganda piece imo.

Don't miss the sequel, 50,000 barrels this time.

Propaganda piece imo.

The vids actually have nothing to do with the oil spill, just someone using the game engine from Quake to render a bunch of barrels falling for non-political purposes.

million gallons = as much as will fit in a 2 story house w/ basement??

Basically yes.

1,000,000 = 100*100*100, so a cube made from 1,000,000 one gallon milk jugs would have 100 jugs in each planar direction and would be 100 jugs tall. That may be slightly larger than a suburban home, but definitely compares to a McMansion.

So on day whatever we're on, a single subdivision size reservoir about 50ft deep would hold all of the oil. It's a very peculiar amount really, where it can be argued that it is a very large amount of oil at the same time as it can be argued that its really a minuscule amount.

It's now estimated at 60,000 barrels per day.
Thats 2.5 million gallons per day.
Been leaking for 60 days or so, so thats about 150 million gallons of crude oil to date.
In cubic feet that is: 24,081,558
or about half the size of the Sears Tower in Chicago. (53.4 million cubic feet)

Honestly this video doesn't put anything in perspective at all.

Anyone know the volume of water in the Gulf Coast?

"The mean (average) water depth of the Gulf is ~1,615 m and the basin contains a volume of 2,434,000 cubic kilometers of water (6.43 * 1017 or 643 quadrillion gallons)."
