There's been a lot of fuss the last couple of weeks over reports that the New Hampshire Republican Party had moved up the deadline for registration so as to minimize possible Ron Paul votes in that state's primary election. Turns out said reports may have been mistaken, and the agitation unnecessary (and counterproductive). According to this note (http://www.ronpaulhq.com/primary.php) at Ron Paul HQ (http://www.ronpaulhq.com), the "Unofficial New Hampshire Volunteer Headquarters": "... here in NH the rules have not changed."
"We were always a closed primary (must register as a Republican to vote in the primary). It is true that the date got announced only recently, but that is a function of the primary date being moved up due to other states trying to get an early primary."
However, "... independents can show up the day of the primary and change to Republican and vote (and change back after the vote). The Oct 12 deadline ONLY AFFECTS PEOPLE THAT ARE CURRENTLY REGISTERED AS DEMOCRATS. And in NH, since independents can vote in either primary, most folks are independents (around 43%). So a mountain has been made of a molehill. Only 26% of registered voters in NH are Democrats. It's possible we could win some of this 26% over (and have already), but we are more likely to get independent and Republican voters than the registered democrats. And we will have up until the day of the primary to do that. By all means, spread the word to your Democrat friends to switch parties to vote for Ron Paul. But please don't spread disinformation on the situation in NH." [emphasis added]
Unfortunately, while the Internet is a great information and organizing tool, Mark Twain's remark that "A lie will travel halfway around the world before the truth can get its boots on" is also even more true than ever.
Anyway, I'd say things still look good in New Hampshire, if the Revolution still has a chance to reach 74+% of registered voters up until the date of the primary. A win (or good showing) in New Hampshire, of course, is of inestimable value.
