"Fool me once - shame on you, fool me twice - shame on me, fool me eight times - .... am I a fucking idiot!!!!"

Very good summary for people voting for the same government over and over again :)

"Nixon couldn't get it done because he was a communist" -- I think Mr. Stewart was trying to make fun of current government health care critics, but the truth is, Nixon *was* pretty progressive/communist/socialist.

And he got his start in politics by taking out --with the help of wall street -- an incumbent congressman that was single biggest critic of the federal reserve --calling for it to be abolished-- at the time. And then he was the one that took us off the gold standard...coincidence I'm sure.

i think shows like the daily show have more of an effect than most would think. i personally know a lot of dems that consider it the most in-tune, un biased resource on tv...unfortunately....but anyway, stories like the one here really do send the message that you can't believe either party and there is no political massiah-something ive been telling dem/gop friends for years and have been written off. now they're hearing from their hero-i dont look so crazy...so thanks stewart!
and you can almost follow john stewarts dissolusionment on a daily basis which only helps the liberty movement.

To be fair, no one has a magic wand, but we have made progress.

Hopefully, Stewart's rant will wake a few up who believe that government can fix everything if they are allowed to steal enough money from the tax slave.

You guys missed the moment of Zen at the end of the episode. They showed a clip from a 1951 Halliburton promotional film.

It's one thing to point out the facts. It's another to showcase the hypocrisy and tear it down so brilliantly. Very effective way to get the message across.

I don’t know. While the humor stemmed from ridiculing the incompetent government, the end showed the real point: to advocate government intervention. IOW while his making fun of the government was hilarious, in the end he showed his true bias: liberal / pro-government.

Yeah, what is Jon Stewart's solution exactly? More government? This clip was funny, but what is the conclusion his viewers are supposed to draw from this? If anything, it should teach us that government fails miserably at everything it tries to control (especially on the federal level) and that perhaps our current approach needs to be scrapped, but I doubt Stewart and his main audience draw that conclusion.

They still probably think we need to elect better leaders who care.

If we had better leaders who cared, socialism would work a lot better than the corporatism we have now where the wealth is being stolen from the poor and given to the ultra wealthy, but not as efficient and productive as the free market where the middle and upper class would prosper and help bring poorer people up with them... but electing better leaders who care is impossible because socialism inherently leads to corruption in government.

The biggest improvement we made in reducing our dependence on oil came following the energy crisis under Jimmy Carter. People finally started demanding more fuel efficient cars and the demand for oil fell (something like two thirds of our oil consumption is in the form of gasoline). Despite a growing population and economy, in absolute tems (not just per capita) we did not consume as much oil as we did in the 1970's until the last few years. But a lot of what can be gained via more efficient automoblies has pretty much been realized.

But what do you do now to reduce consumption of oil? Ban cars? Electric cars which would require a massive expansion of electricity production (coal or gas fired plants in most places or more nuclear power which has its own set of issues).
