At least they're consistent, they never give the impression that they are actually fighting for gun owner rights. Good to see Erick touting the Gun Owners of America, they don't get enough credit.

For those of you who don't know, the NRA was not founded as a gun rights organization. It was founded as a marksmanship organization.
In that capacity it does a lot of good.

I think the proper course of action for the NRA is for them to step aside and let groups that were founded on the notion of defending 2A rights carry the torch.
They were at the wheel when we got NFA34, GCA68, FOPA86, and every other single piece of gun control legislation on the books right now.
Other groups are fighting back, and other groups are gaining the ground. It's really that simple: all you need to do is not roll over and die, and you get something.

Keep NRA around for their training programs, but shut down the ILA.

I am shocked.

The real gun right protecting organization is GOA:

Despite being an NRA member I think the organization basically sucks. I am also a member of GOA but the NRA does have courses and events which I enjoy. Politically, however, they might as well be the National Republican Association since they fawn all over the GOP regardless of the philosophy of any particular nominee. This latest crappola is just par for the course for them. Sellout part deux!

If you care about gun rights, you should join a real gun right preservation group. GOA has always been Ron Paul-like in their uncompromising stance on gun rights and is an excellent alternative for liberty minded gun owners:

Also, I wonder how they "verify" that an organization meets the requirements for exemption? Seems to me groups would have to hand their membership lists and members personal information over to the government for some agency to audit the members to make sure they are real and live where they say. Just another way for the Feds to compile lists of people for a future purge.

This isn't even true. They're an incumbent protection machine, and I've worked more races than I care to recall where they've favored and anti-gun Democrat incumbent over a pro-gun GOP challenger.

My understanding is that giving such information to the govt is one of the conditions for tax-exemption status. Which is one of the reasons the jbs isn't tax-exempt. But I'd welcome being corrected if somebody knows better.

If you are correct that's even worse! I guess I haven't paid much attention beyond the races I am interested in and they have always backed Republicans (even scumbags like Specter before his conversion) over Libertarians or Constitutionalists who admittedly did not have much chance to win. Thanks for the correction!
