You're all brainwashed. This misconception about the need for petroleum was first masterminded back in the 30's when the timber and what has now grown into plastics industries fabricated, bribed, and intimidated politicians into prohibiting hemp, NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH MARJIANA.
It takes enough corn to feed 1 man for a year to create enough ethenol to fill a hummer. Hemp is an alternative to corn. What's worse, they know it's more efficient to process with less waste. 1 acre of hemp creates as much paper as 4 acres of trees, and no carbon discharge. Not to mention ropes,canvas,rubbers,adhesives,etc.
Knowing half the truth is as much as knowing nothing.
