This is how we keep letting our nation go down the drain by some small group with more incentive than the masses, to make it seem like the whole country is speaking. I think we should vote!!!

I CAN’T BELIEVE PEOPLE WANT TO BAN THE FLAGS IN SCHOOL - HELP VOTE – SAY NO TO THE BAN!!!

FORWARD to all your friends who LOVE the United States of America and are proud to show it!

Fox is running a poll about whether the flag should be banned in schools in order not to inflame Hispanic students. The poll is being sandbagged by SEIU and we should mount a counter action if you agree with me that the flag should be taken down for no one.

Just in case you haven’t heard yet Fox News has a “Poll-Should the Flag Be Banned at Schools?”

Moveon.org, Organizing for America, and SEIU have been twittering today to go to Fox Poll and vote to ban the Flag .... and right now it is working.

SHOW THEM WHAT TRUE PATRIOTS BELIEVE!!! Let's flip those numbers and show the leftists we are organized and on the move....flip the numbers now-FLIP THE HOUSE in November!

GO HERE NOW: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2010/05/06/american-flag-banned-america

..........and then pass it along, please!

The fewer things that inspire blind patriotism in government the better IMO.

Assuming for a moment the bolded part is accurate (I did not see it as part of the poll), it's the poll that is designed to inflame. "Hispanic" is such a broad umbrella term, and encompasses all sorts of people. In this case, we're talking about Hispanics in America (obviously, because they'd be using public schools in the USA), so it's narrowed down a little.

There are legal immigrants who took oaths and went through a very drawn-out process and became citizens, or are in the process of doing this. I doubt most of this category would have an aversion to the flag. A lot of people fly their "home country" flag at home, or have tee shirts or whatever that show pride in where they came from, but I'm puzzled as to why anyone in this group would become angry over the flag of the country they've worked so hard to get into.

There are native-born Hispanics who know nothing but the USA. I doubt most of this category would have an aversion to the flag. The same cultural pride might apply as mentioned before, but hating the flag is going to be reserved for a few notable idiots. I think of this along the lines as the people who grew up coddled in the USA but suddenly start dressing in the garb of their ancestors and hating the US flag, and waving their ancestors' flag. In some cases people tout the superiority of their ancestors' nation, and things like that. I've seen some behavior along those lines justified by "African pride," but those same kids wouldn't survive in their beautiful "homeland." It's a narrow, slim subset of the population that hates their own country like that.

There are Hispanics in the country illegally. I doubt most of this category would have an aversion to the flag. I know. I'm so off-base! Frankly, most of the illegals are not on television or speaking out as activists. There is a very, very, VERY vocal minority acting stupidly as others are trying to keep a fairly low profile. Despite the fact that immigration laws are hardly ever enforced, la Migra is still a fear. That's like saying the police hardly ever kill the person they pull over or respond to (and it's true; lots of traffic stops and responses to homes go without incident every day). A lot of people on this board are still very aware of how the police can act, and keep it in mind.

There is a vocal, stupid group of people who happen to be Hispanic making total idiots of themselves. I won't even limit it to Mexicans, because you can go to South Florida and see a few Cubans doing it (in far smaller numbers, but still) and you can go around and see a lot of people who'd qualify as being patriotic for their "homeland" as I mentioned above. It's not the majority. It's not worth pandering to. Why would the country pander to people that actually hate the place? Put up or shut up: if it is so awful, please feel free to leave or get involved to make it "better" for yourself.

Anyhow, no, the flag should not be "banned" in schools except on a school's authority itself. Ideally one would also be free to avoid that school altogether and have one's child attend another community school or private school. I'm entirely with the poster who wants to get rid of public schools :D

This is a local issue and should be addressed there. I do not care if schools fly a flag or not. I DO care if they are teaching. They should stick to their main purpose.

I prefer private schools but whatever the citizens of a city or county want is their business. How they do it is their business.

Seconded!

It is the acme of foolishness to get so flustered about some utterly insignificant pet issue with the government brainwashing centers.
Those of you who want to keep the flag in the schools are simply expressing your preference for the particular brand of brainwashing that should be taking place.

Should we actually get rid of the brainwashing altogether, we might as a society come to the conclusion that education has nothing to do with memorizing facts and dates, and that schools should instead aim to prepare young people to educate themselves.

The American flag is a racist symbol. No self described liberal or progressive would be caught anywhere near it.

Have you ever taken a good look at the American flag? Do you notice how there is more white than there is red or blue? A sort of symbol telling Americans "we're ok with having other colors, as long as there is more white". Just like our country today, a white population fighting to keep minorities at bay, waving their American flag in the faces of the oppressed.

In case I wasn't clear, thirded! ;)

As for "keeping the flag in the schools," I said it shouldn't be "banned" but that doesn't mean it should be mandatory. It simply means I don't want Government saying "You absolutely cannot have a flag in school." If the question were "Should the flag be required in American schools?" I would have answered "no" as well.

Can't believe a FOX poll would be so divided. Those are mostly hard core neocons posting there.

Fourthed. Why people think the best way to have accountability or performance is to monopolize an industry, and force people to pay for it regardless of whether they consider it effective, or efficient, is beyond me.

If I eliminated every restaurant in your town but one, and forced everyone to go there at least once a week, whether they wanted to or not, do you think the food and service would improve?

*Pft* The Ten Commandments, Bible reading, and prayer were banned in public schools years ago, so their wanting to ban the American flag is no surprise to me. That is another evidence of how socialist/humanist thinking has invaded our educational system via the federal government's control.

But, ideally speaking, we should ban public schools altogether, as one earlier member mentioned. :)

You're right, it's federal government intervention again.
