The two are not mutually exclusive. It wouldn't surprise me if most people realize Austrian economics and Ron Paul are right. But then a new idol will come along preaching Austrian economics to get elected. After they woo the weak-willed over trusting public and get elected, they will become just another corporatist war mongering president or senator or whatever.

As a rule, though, we all have every right to be cynical. No matter how often Austrian economics proves its mettle nor how much Congressman Paul's message resonates with people, we who follow such ideas get the shaft.
