If they really trusted the free market to govern human behavior, there'd be no incentive for them to seize the helm of the state for the purposes of legislating their own morality. I'm not saying this is true of all so-cons, since some of them are politically libertarian (Gary North for example). But the "activist" social conservatives rarely are.

Great video, i completely agree with him. I don't have a problem with social conservatives if it's just their personal views...totally fine, but believing that the government should enforce these views..no thanks.

Interesting. I think you can be a social conservative and still be libertarian in the sense that one could support marriage but not want government to have anything to do with it, support religious freedom and not want government interfering in any way (such as "faith-based initiatives") etc.

I'd say the founders of America were very much social conservatives (i.e. supported traditional values, natural law etc) but at the same time were libertarian in that they would have not wanted government interfering with the natural development of human affairs.
