1. http://keepvid.com paste youtube link, download FLV file.
2. Google FLV player and install one. You can then watch FLV movies on your hard drive.
3. (optional) Use a program like Total Video Converter to convert from FLV to other formats as desired for your needs.

Or you can automatically convert it to .mpeg or some other codec and lose some quality but not have to deal with odd file formats here

People ought to stop using vixy.net unnecessarily. It’s jamming up that site. Alternative to vixy.net are flvix.com, vConvert.com and zamzar.com

from a comment I just found

At least on OS X with Safari you just open up the Activity window under the WIndow menu and you can get at the video file and save it to disk.

Maybe Safari 3 beta on Windows has the same thing? I don't know, I've never tried it on Windows.

I use VDownloader (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Download-Managers/VDownloader.shtml).

It's a pretty slick little standalone application. You copy and paste the video link in, select what video format you want it in, and it downloads and converts it for you.

mediaconverter.org does it also, just give them the youtube link and they download and convert it for you, then you download the converted file. Choose from several formats they provide, mpg/avi/wmv etc.

I was just forced to download RealPlayer 11 to view some video content and Im glad. It makes it extremely easy to download any online video. Go to real.com and download the player. Then, when you are watching youtube you just have to click on "download this video" on the top right.
