Anyone got a lock on what 2 aspects of the comission report Ron was referring to?

I've got a few ideas, but nothing really solid

I don't know exactly the page number but you can download chapters on this site:
http://www.gpoaccess.gov/911/index.html

I think you can find much of it in this section:
2. The Foundation of the New Terrorism
2.1 A Declaration of War
2.2 Bin Ladin's Appeal in the Islamic World
2.3 The Rise of Bin Ladin and al Qaeda (1988-1992)
2.4 Building an Organization, Declaring War on the United States (1992-1996)
2.5 Al Qaeda's Renewal in Afghanistan (1996-1998)

And maybe this section:
13. How To Do It? A Different Way of Organizing the Government
13.1 Unity of Effort across the Foreign-Domestic Divide
13.2 Unity of Effort in the Intelligence Community
13.3 Unity of Effort in Sharing Information
13.4 Unity of Effort in the Congress
13.5 Organizing America's Defenses in the United States

There are other mentions, but this talks about how he got so many followers:

2.2 BIN LADIN’S APPEAL IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD

It is the story of eccentric and violent ideas sprouting in the fertile ground of political and social turmoil. It is the story of an organization poised to seize its historical moment. How did Bin Ladin—with his call for the indiscriminate killing of Americans—win thousands of followers and some degree of approval from millions more?
The history, culture, and body of beliefs from which Bin Ladin has shaped and spread his message are largely unknown to many Americans. Seizing on symbols of Islam’s past greatness, he promises to restore pride to people who consider themselves the victims of successive foreign masters. He uses cultural and religious allusions to the holy Qur’an and some of its interpreters. He appeals to people disoriented by cyclonic change as they confront modernity and globalization. His rhetoric selectively draws from multiple sources—Islam, history, and the region’s political and economic malaise. He also stresses grievances against the United States widely shared in the Muslim world. Heinveighed against the presence of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia, the home of Islam’s holiest sites. He spoke of the suffering of the Iraqi people as a result of sanctions imposed after the Gulf War, and he protested U.S. support of Israel.

Also...

...America is also held responsible for the governments of Muslim countries, derided by al Qaeda as “your agents.”Bin Ladin has stated flatly,“Our fight against these governments is not separate from our fight against you.”14 These charges found a ready audience among millions of Arabs and Muslims angry at the United States because of issues ranging from Iraq to Palestine to America’s support for their countries’ repressive rulers.
The report does, of course, say bin Laden hates us for less tangible reasons. There is no doubting he dislikes women in bikinis. The question is whether he would attack us over it, and how much support and help he would have if he did. The report certainly seems to indicate his many supporters support him because of America's actions, not its culture.

How about these?

"America's policy choices have consequences. Right or Wrong; It is simply a fact that... American actions in Iraq are dominant staples of popular commentary across the Arab and Muslim world."

- The 9/11 Comission Report

"If the present Injustice continues... it will inevitably move the battle to American soil"

- Usama Bin Laden in 1998
As told By the 9/11 Comission Report

Gee, I don't know what you're up to in terms of looking for stuff in the 9/11 report, but do you by chance recall when Madeline Albright was interviewed on 60 minutes by Leslie Stahl, while Clinton was in office?

Leslie asked if the sanctions were worth 500,000 dead Iraqi children, and Madeline actually said YES.

Someone needs to dig that up and let it make the rounds on youtube or something...

Yes, and I remember it was mentioned on either the Daily Show or the Colbert Report. Looks like it was mentioned on 60-minutes, but I can't find any video online.

Here is an article on it, though: http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1084

"...a very special level of hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater"? (http://www.fireflywiki.org/Firefly/SpecialHell) :)
