Turn the question around, were the soldiers justified in staging an armed invasion of the boats in international waters?

I would have taken a machete to the son of a bitch, especially since they attacked first.

Reason

I think they were justified overall.

I'm guessing the IDF weren't expecting a fight.

I tink this was taken by an infrared camera, and the bright background you see is infrared reflection off the exterior of a bulkhead in the background.

that's what you are mistaking for daylight.

Either way the IDF royally screwed up and didn't use common sense or sensible tactics. A US Coast Guard boarding party wouldn't have allowed that many people to get close with pipes and chairs. It isn't like they weren't able to maintain distance and order people to the ground and then resort to pepper spray or the baton to maintain that distance.

Come on. At least we can all agree that there was incompetence here, but the US should stay out of it in any case.

To me it looks like it is from the 1940s and done on a reel-to-reel.

Shouldn't you be asking if the soldiers had the right to be on their boat? If someone comes into my house armed in the middle of the night should i make sure i offer them a cup of tea and a cookie first ;)

The Klinghoffer treatment is too good for violent, uninvited boarders.

These activists should follow Russia's example of dealing with pirates.

Leave them adrift miles from anything with no radios, flares, sails, or paddles.

And one half empty bottle of water, to prolong their suffering.

I like how the video circles and points out the passengers of the boat - who were there via mutual consent with its captain - attacking the Israeli soldiers....and yet, for some reason, it DOESN'T circle and highlight the Israeli soldiers who were SHOOTING UNARMED PASSENGERS.

But, sure, the video is unbiased.

Lowering themselves 1-2 at a time from a helicopter at 4am in international waters and people are surprised they took up arms? I mean come on lets get real. Not to mention they had assault gear and weapons on them. It's not like they tried to disable the ship or prevent them from moving. It was a very ignorant move on the IDF's part.

Turkey: Future Gaza Aid Ships Will Have Military Escorts (http://news.antiwar.com/2010/05/31/turkey-future-gaza-aid-ships-will-have-military-escorts/)

Massacre Further Harms Israel-Turkey Ties

Once Israel’s closest ally in the region, the Turkish government has reacted with fury at last night’s Gaza aid ship massacre, condemning it as ‘inhuman state terror (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703406604575278651474545766.html?m od=WSJ_World_LeadStory).’
http://news.antiwar.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/turk.jpg Turkey's Navy will reportedly protect future aid ships

The attacked ship was Turkish in origin and at least two of the slain aid workers were Turkish citizens. Turkey says future aid ships will be dispatched with a military escort so as to prevent future Israeli attacks (http://blogs.alternet.org/speakeasy/2010/05/31/turkey-promises-to-send-supplies-to-gaza-with-naval-escort/).
Turko-Israeli relations have been on the decline in recent months, including a staged photo-op by the Israeli Foreign Ministry designed to shame Turkey’s ambassador (http://news.antiwar.com/2010/05/31/2010/01/12/turkey-seethes-at-deliberate-diplomatic-slights-in-israel/). Israel also reportedly arrested a Turkish citizen weeks ago (http://news.antiwar.com/2010/05/31/2010/05/17/israel-demands-europe-stop-citizens-from-gaza-aid-trip/) for being a member of a humanitarian group involved with the aid ship.
Israeli officials have defended the killings as “self defense,” claiming the aid workers were secretly in league with al-Qaeda. A top Israeli investment house has also called for a divestment from Turkey (http://www.globes.co.il/serveen/globes/docview.asp?did=1000563195&fid=942) to protest Turkey’s criticism of the massacre.

I hope it is. I hope that the next time a Hammas laden ship attempts to run a legal blockade that the Israelis just sink it.

Indeed the soldiers did have every right to board a ship attempting to run a legal blockade. Five of the ships caused no problems buy the sixth ship was full of Hammas terrorists that wanted to cause trouble. The members of Hammas should be imprisoned for at least twnty years for causing the deaths.

definitely some sort of night vision* camera. The poles they were using to beat the soldiers looked like light sabers. Also, the claim that the soldiers were using paintball guns looks to be true in at least two cases. That doesn't mean other soldiers weren't carrying real guns or that a paintball can't be deadly.

*i don't think it was infrared.

The blockade is not recognized as legal by any international organization.

If it were, humanitarian ships are specifically excluded from the right to board given to countries running blockades.

The sixth ship was full of Hammas? LOL! For starts, it is spelled Hamas. And why do they need to import Hamas into Palestine? It is their home base! In fact, they are the government there.

Israel killed 2 people on a ship flying a white flag before they even began boarding it. By all means, lets make them the victim here.

Hamas, Hammas no difference to me. They were on the sixth ship in anticipation of the IDF boarding the ship why else would they be there. Wake up you and all of the Israel haters have been had by "Hamas" . By the way either spelling is correct.

Why do you think we hate Israel?

Why do you think the whole world is wrong and Israel is right?

And why do you think there were terrorists hiding on the 6th ship? That's absolutely the silliest thing I've heard so far. Were there WMDs there too? Al Qaeda? Bin Laden? LOL!
