The U.S. House Ethics Committee confirmed yesterday that corrupt U.S. Representative Charlie Rangel (D-NY) is guilty of breaking key ethics rules. Rangel continues to face "more troublesome allegations" that are still under investigation, according to the Washington Post.

This is why running third party is mostly pointless. I voted Constitution party last time due to lack of choices, but if anyone actually wants to win, we need control of the party machinery such as Kentucky.

He can't. Every candidate gets at least some money from unsavory characters. Campaigns do not run background checks on donors.

That said, the campaign treasurer needs a small list of big names to avoid: the names that some third-rate blogger might search for on OpenSecrets and then breathlessly "break" as if it was a story tantamount to Watergate. You know, names like Don Black (who hasn't given any money thus far despite any insinuation from Daily Kooks.) That way if a well-known idiot like Don Black does donate, the donation can be spotted by the treasurer and secretly refunded before the name is added to the FEC report.

Good call. This is exactly what needs to happen. The good thing about Ron Paul's presidential run (besides the opportunity to educate voters, of course), is that the liberty movement learned about the sort of tactics our opponents will use to try and discredit us. Despite all the angsting about Jesse Benton joining Rand's campaign, it's probably good to have the experience of someone who made a lot of the rookie mistakes last time around. Now all Rand's team needs to do is avoid falling into the obvious traps, and he should win it in a walk.

" National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Press Secretary Amber Marchand issued the following statement in response:

"Itís remarkable that Kentuckyís chief law enforcement officer is squarely at odds with the House Ethics Committee when it comes to his loyal campaign contributor, Charlie Rangel. The Ethics Committee has made it clear what any reasonable person would have concluded over a year ago: that Charlie Rangel is unethical. Nevertheless, Conway has failed to return Rangelís donations thus far, and he has failed to condemn his actions. In the wake of these developments, Jack Conway faces a key question - will he return these tainted campaign contributions, or will he continue to turn a blind eye to corrupt behavior in Congress?"

That is exactly the sort of 'endorsement by acceptance of contributions' Conway's sort subscribes to. Nice to see it bite him. Wish they looked more at BP's contributions to Conway, though.
