Legislator Posts Votes on Facebook. All of Them.

A strangely beautiful sight.

Justin Amash is running for Congress as a Republican in Michigan. He's currently a state legislator. And as part of his campaign for higher office [UPDATE: He's been posting votes for a year], he's posting every one of his votes on Facebook, with a short account of why he voted the way the did. A casual visitor to Amash's page can learn that he voted against a pilot program for ignition interlocks and against an increase in the school budget. Michiganders and others can comment on the votes or the reasoning directly below the posting. Meanwhile, a quick glance at his info page shows that he's a member of St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church and that his motto is the cheesy but nicely punctuated "Principled. Consistent. Conservative."

The fact that this idea is novel—his press release claims that he is the first legislator to post all of his votes on Facebook—shows how far we are from a real, voluntary culture of disclosure in our legislatures.

Seems like a good guy. Do you know of any polls?

I read he is a fan of Hayek, and his district is very conservative, the west side of Michigan is like a whole other state. Added him to my signature, began hearing about him recently more and more, this guy sounds awesome.

I don't know if they've done any polls, but he's definitely got a strong chance of winning.

He has experience in winning elections. He is in a heavily GOP district. He has the endorsement of the retiring Republican. He has the endorsement of the DeVos family, billionaires who are rumored to be the country's biggest GOP donors.

This seat is ours for the taking if we can pony up some cash and volunteers.

The endorsement of the DeVos family is huge. Will be spreading this around to my contacts, and donating in the coming week. I have friends over there too Grand Rapids and Ionia. Very glad to hear about him running. He is a "NO" vote from what I read....:)

Edit: The more I'm reading and learning about him, he is like a younger Ron Paul, to the tee. We need to get a sub-forum for this guy, just like BJ Lawson.

If you have friends over there, please mention Eric Larson (http://www.ericlarson2010.com/ ) who is another one of us - he is running for the seat that Amash is leaving.

Agreed. What does it take for us to get a subforum?

No official polls out yet. Right now, it is a tight three-way race between Amash, Hardiman, and Heacock. Two articles have been released regarding the leader of the race. One cited "Hardiman and Amash" while the other stated it was "Amash and Heacock"

Justin is in contention for sure.

Yeah! FREEEEEEEEDOM!

Thanks to the mods and admin's that run this great site for giving Justin Amash his own sub-forum! Thank you.

To Supporters: We need some threads on what's going on locally in the race, etc.....(been googling a bit, but hard finding local press?) just me?

Edit: Just checked his ticker and noticed he brought in $13,000 today - nice!
