This was a case where SCOTUS came up with legal theories about the secession of states. Also the dissent makes good observations about the new SCOTUS definition of what a state is according to this ruling. Secede... not ok according to SCOTUS unless you win the war. The several states replacing the constitution... perfectly ok.
