Will a bigger geek than me please read this article and report back how we can do what he is suggesting?

snip:
Say the Paul supporters were savvy enough and dedicated enough; there's no limit to the pages on Paul's site they could get ranking for hot button issues and important, politically relevant queries - everything from Iraq War to Immigration to Health Insurance and 2008 Election could have pages on Paul ranking in the top 1-5 results. With control of the search results, it's likely he'd have considerably more brand recognition than his current 29%

I suspect we're already SEO masters. Can you search for politics on the internet without getting hit with Ron Paul stuff? I doubt it.

Edit: SEO stands for search engine optimization. Its a way to make sure that your results show up for relevant searches, either by using keywords on the webpage or by Google bombing. Google bombing is linking a relevant phrase to a website to make the website come up. Like if I want people to find the Ron Paul page when they search for Constitution, I would do this: Constitution (http://www.ronpaul2008.com).

Similarly, this can be used for ill will. Dumb as hell (http://www.fred08.com).

Now when Google indexes this forum page, it will "learn" to show people who search for the Constitution the Ron Paul page as a result. People who search for "dumb as hell" will get the Thompson page as a result.

SEO is Search Engine Optimization. It generally means fine tuning the wording and design of a web page to rank higher in sear engine results. People aim to get their web page to show up on the first page of a google search for whatever given search words.

Since we can't tinker with the official web page, what we can do as supporters is put links on our own webpages and blogs pointing to the ronpaul2008.com pages. The more links to a given webpage from other people's websites, the higher it ranks on the search results.

Yeah, I already responded to him. We already own the internet. We need to learn how to reach other people. And fast.

The real masters are those at fredthompsonforum.com (http://fredthompsonforum.com/). They are almost to page 1 for the term 'fred thompson' We have got to do something about that!

When you link it, make sure to link it using his name, like this: Fred Thompson (http://www.fredthompsonforum.com)

Unfortunately, alot of that is out of our hands - meta tags and such have to be created by the web designer so that certain terms are keyed in on by the search engines. What we CAN do, however, is link to specific things from as many sites as possible - they are better if they are from sites with political content as they will get heavier weight by the algorithm the search engine uses. Just posting links on the internet any old place could actually have a negative impact on ranking in the search engine inquiries.

meta tags have very little impact on google. Linking to the issues pages and whatnot could be very effective. It's a good suggestion.

Thats cool that Fishkin mentioned it. We have a lot of supporters in the SEO and Internet marketing communities, actually. I belong to a lot of forums and see RP sigs everywhere I go and even RP marketing contests.

FWIW, SEO pretty much describes what I do "for a living."
