I'd never heard of this guy but he seems pretty legitimate. Moneybombs, referencing rand on his facebook, and getting local press. Does anybody know about this guy? Is he competitive?

I heard he has the best chance of being elected of any liberty candidate for the US house

Yes yes yes - he is very competitive! I have donated to him. He has the support of the party and of the DeVos family, who are rumored to be the biggest donors in the national RNC. He has the endorsement of the Republican who is retiring, leaving that seat vacant. He's in a Republican district. He's totally one of our best chances to win another seat in the House.

I just sent a message to contact@justinamash.com to invite him or a campaign official to the forum.
We'll see if they respond.

Justin is the BEST. He updates from the house floor in Michigan. He lets you know the bill number, how he voted and the outcome of every single vote. ALL politicians should do this, IMO.

I concur with Elle. I live in Michigan's 3rd congressional district, and I'm definitely voting for Justin Amash -- he was the first legislator to post all of his votes online directly from the House floor (www.facebook.com/justinamash), and his colleagues (both Dems and Republicans) applaud him for his willingness to work with both sides of the aisle. He's extremely principled and has worked hard to convince a growing number of his colleagues in the House to side with him on important issues.

The Amash campaign is going very well (www.justinamash.com), but he has strong competition -- big-government Republicans who are well-entrenched and well-connected. Please help spread the word!

It's heartening to hear he already has supporters here. I suppose this thread ought to be the place for any mini-bomb planning. You Michiganders ought to take the lead. It wouldn't hurt to change your sigs to promote his campaign and, when it is decided, a day of contribution.

Are there any videos of his speaking?

Edit: Welcome to the forums, deagle. That post sounded like a press release. ;)

Another liberty candidate is running to take Amash's vacant seat in the MI House, too. His name is Eric Larson, and if you live in the Grand Rapids area I beg you to please, please volunteer and/or donate to him.

I do know him as a co-blogger, and he's everything we Michiganders need to replace Amash in our legislature.

At first glance at the thread title I thought it said: "Just in: Amish-liberty candidate in Michigan." I could see an Amish liberty candidate in light of the recent raids on dairy farmers. Jokes aside, this guy seems great and deserves a sub-forum. Big bump.

He is definitely legitimate. After last night's debate:

"It’s a two horse race at this point. Amash and Heacock are the clear frontrunners. Justin Amash has run an impressive campaign and can certainly unite conservatives, libertarians, and fiscally conservative Democrats"

Hey guys, the campaign just got back to me and said that they would try to get Justin to come by and say hello. Please understand he is very busy running as successful campaign, so he'll have to fit it in as time allows.

Thanks Biles.
Here's the content of the email exchange.

Hi Tommy,

Thank you so much for reaching out to us. Justin has been swamped the last few days, but he's going to try to pop in and introduce himself soon.

In the meantime, it would be great if the forum would consider creating a sub-forum for Justin, like it has for Rand Paul, Peter Schiff, and others. Justin has an incredible chance to win the primary here. He already has overwhelming grassroots support in the area, but the support of liberty-minded people across the country would be a huge boost to our campaign. With the help of the Ron Paul community, we could exponentially increase Justin's name ID.

I think a member of our team has already reached out to the webmaster about setting up a sub-forum, but is there someone else we should contact?

Thanks again,

Poppy

I explained as best I could how sub-forums are decided on, but I suspect the general politics section will do for now. Angelatc, I recommended you as a liaison for their campaign, but we'll see. I suppose they might have better things to do than post on internet forums;) I just wanted to keep everybody updated.

Justin Amash featured in THE ATLANTIC :)

"Transparency watch: a state representative from Michigan, Justin Amash, is posting explanation of every single vote he takes on his Facebook page. Amash is running for Congress in MI 3 as a Republican"

I know Eric Larson too. He's definitely the real deal. I talked to him a handful of times during the 2008 campaign. He led a huge meetup group in Grand Rapids, and he's a clean cut professional, and not some weirdo. In fact, the reason I know Amash is a good candidate is because Larson said so, which is good enough for me.

The folks at red state are righting about him. As Biles noted, Reason (http://reason.com/blog/2010/05/28/legislator-posts-votes-on-face), too.
