But when Paul says that the term "Islamic fascism" (or, for the purpose of discussion, its synonymous twin, "Islamofascism") is propaganda designed to spread war, he's veered off into the sort of paranoid fringe kookiness that keeps his campaign relegated to a side-show novelty act.

some should respond - I'm afraid I'd be too mad at him.

"So it looks like you're pretty much proving the point of propaganda, thanks."

Here is what I sent him.

Dear Mr. Bevan,

I would like to commend you for writing a fair editorial. It was very
good of you to acknowledge the legitimacy of Paul's views. Other
writers have not been so respectful.

You and I disagree on the phrase Islamic fascism. Fascism is a
governmental system that subordinates the individual and exalts the
state. It is accompanied by an aggressive nationalism and state
regimentation of industry and commerce (corporatism).

But this is far removed from the decentralized, tribal organization of
Islamic warlords. Under the Taleban, there was no proper state and no
state institutions. The government, such as it was, was composed of
mostly illiterate rural clerics. People were loyal to their local
leaders, not a centralized government. In no significant way did it
resemble the modern, industrialized fascist states of Mussolini and
Hitler.

So I think it is inaccurate to describe the Taleban and al-Qaeda as
Islamic fascists. And if the phrase is inaccurate, then for what
purpose is it employed?

Sincerely yours,
XXX

I'll post any response.

Good reply Dmitchell! I am one of those people who doesn't like the term Islamic Fascism for just that reason. It is nearly an oxymoron in that sense.
