"Connecticut Republican Senate candidate Peter Schiff held a press conference on the steps of the state capitol in Hartford yesterday to unveil the endorsements of virtually all the major Tea Party groups in Connecticut, as well as the endorsements of the 9 largest Connecticut-based conservative advocacy groups, further cementing his status as the Tea Party candidate in the race. Peter is aiming to outperform expectations at the upcoming state convention on Friday, where delegates will determine who will get free access to the August primary ballot.

The current standing of the Republican primary race is unknown, as no company has polled it in over two months, though Schiff stood at 9% before any of his television ads, radio ads, mailers, or his dozens of Republican Town Committee meetings. Most people are expecting Schiff's numbers to be well into the double digits with the release of the next public opinion survey, and these endorsements will certainly help.

Some of the groups who endorsed Peter yesterday include:

The Cheshire Tea Party
The Clinton-Killingworth Tea Party
The Greenwich-Stamford Tea Party
The Hartford Tea Party
The Mary Kay-Southbury Tea Party
The Mattatuck Tea Party
The Meriden Tea Party
The New Boston Tea Party
The New Haven Tea Party
The New Milford Tea Party
The Plainville-Southington Tea Party
The Stratford Tea Party
The Torrington Tea Party
The Trumbull Tea Party
The Waterbury Tea Party
Burlington Republican Town Committee
Enfield Republican Town Committee
Harwinton Republican Town Committee
Salisbury Republican Town Committee
Seymour Republican Town Committee
Woodbury Republican Town Committee
Connecticut Deserves Better Government PAC
The Connecticut Patriot Alliance
Connecticut Resistance
Distressed Patriots for America
Dump Dodd 2010 PAC
The Independence Caucus
The Rat-Pack Motorcycle Club
Right Principles PAC"

Peter is going to have a tough path towards the senate, much harder than Rand. But it would be amazing if he made it. Imagine his punchlines in the senate. There is not enough money in the world to pay for that.

He just needs to push hard enough for the media to recognize him. After that is accomplished, I think we are in striking distance.

That's an impressive list of endorsements and it sort of DOES make him the tea party candidate--he has the endorsement of 14 teaparty groups there. Unfortunately that isn't likely to include significant money or grassroots support, but it ensures votes and a label of being the "tea party candidate" in Connecticut.

If Schiff is at 20% or higher, you might see a lot of interest from libertarian types. Unfortunately Schiff is in a VERY Democratic state, running against a successful Democratic candidate (despite the recent gaffe) and in a VERY expensive media market. His $3 million is nothing compared to Rand's.

We just need to keep spreading the message to Connecticut voters. Make phone calls for the campaign. Converting people and encouraging them to become boots on the ground is what wins campaigns.

Ask PPP to POLL the race god damnit

Hopefully a poll will be out soon, but if not, the convention results will be a pretty fair idea of where Schiff's at right now. I think he's somewhere between 15-25%.
