Haha i refreshed the page cuz i figured this would pop up.

They included his clip from the debate when he talked about the constitutional requirement that the president go to Congress for a declaration of war.

Colbert just called him Ron "noballs" paul because he didnt think the president should have the sole decision to go to war.
There was a clip played from the debate and he said ron paul was the only one that didnt want to go to war without congressional approval.
typical colbert humor. No one send angry emails about the no balls thing please! haha

EDIT: I was beat to it =[

I think it's kind of funny that a negative word from Colbert gives a positive response from his audience.

To quote an audience member: "Woo!"

thatnerdyguy
10-11-2007, 09:40 PM
Yeah, Colbert called him "Congressional wet blanket" Ron Paul, then played the clip of him at the debate saying "Just read the constitution!". It was juxtoposed against the other candidate responses about the question of whether the president could bomb iran without congressional ok.

And then Colbert called him Ron "no balls" Paul. It was awesome. Someone in the audience wooted at his name.

Awesome. :) I wonder if Colbert (the real one) actually is a supporter... hmmm...

I doubt it. He's not terribly big on economic freedom.

Yeah, both he and Stewart seem to definitely lean left of center. I'm thinking they are more Obama types... maybe Hillary...

I'd say they're more Kucinich types. Stewart has openly admitted that he IS a socialist 100% in an interview

Doesn't matter, they both respect Ron Paul's dedication to principles at least, and they mention his name from time to time to help us with the name recognition bit.

YES, and when there is one, we should screencap it and send it to Comedy Central, I guarantee they will use it!!!!

Yeah, Stewart's standard answer to his political positions for a while was "I'm a wig". :)

I believe Jon Steward is a socialist but Stephen Colbert is a closet libertarian-Republican for SURE! That's why his satirical neo-con character is so funny!

He can call Ron "no balls" because he doesn't really mean it and we know it...and those who think he DOES mean it think it's funny too. Everyone wins.

Yes very true. This is EXACTLY the type of thing colbert would put on his show. Anything to inflate the ego of colbert (the character, not the man) has a very good chance of making it on the show.

Both Colbert and Stewart, in my opinion do not lean right or left. The only reason they seem to lean left is because the current administration is such an easy target. They may seem left of us because we're pretty far right, but honestly i think they play pretty fairly.

Ultimately i think they are against the whole idea of right and left to begin with and believe that 2 party politics is bullshit and is hurting America (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nof0-9Xu71A ) So i think weather or not they they support our political views or not they at leased respect us for offering the American people something different.

I agree. I went to see the daily show a few years ago in person. Before the show started, people in the audience were asking stewart questions. One guy asked him a question about politics and stewarts answer was "I'm a comedian, not a politician, dont ask me stuff like that"

I have this theory that the people who still think GWB is a great president and the people who still think Colbert is a conservative are... the same people.

I think Stewart and Colbert would both really like a Giuliani presidency, imagine the material they'd have to work with.

They could get good material with Paul as well. Paul isn't the best orater and often stutters or mispeaks. Surely they can find material with any candidate to make fun of.

When it comes to punditry you assume is "liberal" consider why they oppose what you assumed for the last 8 years is "conservative". Then in that context consider the value of their paycheck in comparison to the vast majority of Republicans (or Democrats). Then, add in the complete removal from their paycheck the income tax. All of it, and what image in their minds is created when they think of 100% take on all contracted labor. And then after that bit of selfishness subsides and the "little guy" comes back into their mind, think about how they feel in the same context of all of us having that tax burden completely removed from our backs. And what we can do as a nation without the government sucking us dry for nearly 1/2 of the year - off of our labor.

I think you'd be surprised how many "liberals" will turn out to be libertarian democrats or libertarian republicans really fast because of this movement. You have to understand a huge component of the bleeding heart is the care for the little guy. Not necessarily that we truly need government to redistribute wealth but that as a people we should care for the needy or the underpriveladged. But the solution to this concern is not wealth redistribution, it's removal of the parasitic IRS.

And that truth is shining brightly right now in the subconcious of many "liberals" who truly only see the Democrats as "good" because of "the little guy".

Dr. Paul is the champion of the little guy because he is true student of real-life (read "Austrian-school") economics.

This is another good talking point.

stephen colberts interview with larry king was really cool. It was probably the first time i and many others have seen him out of character. When asked if he was a good american he responded "I see a good american as one that want's to leave others alone" i was just waiting for him to talk about ron paul.
