Ok, since Conway is our opponent now.

First thing that needs to be done is go out on the interwebs and backup the content of every single smear website, attack/smear press releases, youtubes, etc. Because Mongiardo's people might go take down the ones they created ASAP. Download them locally for posterity.

Whether they are fake or not is irrelevant right now. Best to back them all up first, then can decide whether to use them later. If they have a "unity" thing like the Republicans, I would think that dr. dan's people will start scrubbing all their stuff soon.

Release from Mongiardo:

Conway Loans 300K To Campaign From
One Million Made in Texas Gas Co. Opposed
to Developing Clean Kentucky Coal
Kentucky Airwaves and Mailboxes Not Safe for Children

FRANKFORT --- With a loan of $300,000 to his campaign, Jack Conway is bankrolling his bid for U.S. Senate from "millions of dollars in tainted money" he has made in a Texas natural gas company opposed to developing clean Kentucky coal, the Mongiardo for Senate Campaign charged today.

"Jack Conway is launching a new round of false negative ads against Daniel Mongiardo from over one million dollars he made in a Texas gas company that favors developing natural gas over clean Kentucky coal. With over 90% of his stock holdings concentrated in this one Texas energy company, Jack Conway has invested against Kentucky miners, their families and coal communities throughout Kentucky. Jack Conway should be ashamed of himself," said Kim Geveden, Mongiardo spokesman, "because the worse Kentucky coal does, the more money Kinder Morgan and Jack Conway pocket."

As reported in the Courier-Journal, Conway purchased in April 2009, $1 million to $5 million in stock---over 90% of his reported assets---in Kinder Morgan Energy LP, a Texas energy company that favors natural gas over developing clean Kentucky coal. Over the past year, Kinder-Morgan's stock has gone from $48.75/share on April 26, 2009 to $68.27/share on April 26, 2010, a 40% increase. If Conway invested $2.5 million, he has made over $1 million this past year.

"Despite having a family fortune worth millions several times over, Jack Conway has enriched himself by over $1 million in a company hostile to Kentucky's coal economy, its workers and communities. Anyone who cares about Kentucky coal cannot trust Jack Conway," said Geveden.

On January 21, Kinder Morgan CEO Richard Kinder said he "favors natural gas as the solution to the country's energy problems." In an op-ed in the Houston Chronicle in July 2009, Kinder said that natural gas and nuclear are the only answers for the next 10 to 20 years to address climate change while developing clean coal technology will waste "enormous sums of money."

Despite having spent a million dollars on TV ads, most of it negative against Mongiardo, two independent polls this past week show Conway is on average eight points behind Mongiardo.

"Kentucky families and seniors should begin taking steps to protect themselves from the nasty, false negative attacks about to be launched by Jack Conway on TV, radio, mail and phones in the closing days of this campaign as he desperately tries to buy what he couldn't otherwise earn. With Conway pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into his campaign, parents should take care not to let their children answer the phone or open the mail. There is no doubt that the things Jack Conway is going to do and say in the final days of this campaign would make even Mitch McConnell blush," warned Geveden.

Mongiardo Files Ethics Complaint
Against Conway
Conway Violated Public Trust By Taking $70K In
Utility Contributions While Approving Millions In Rate Hikes
Conway Financially Benefits by Approving Rate Hike for Atmos Energy, Business Partner o
Texas Natural Gas Co. Kinder Morgan, Which Conway Has Invested Millions

FRANKFORT --- Lt. Governor and Democratic Senate candidate Dr. Daniel Mongiardo today filed a formal complaint against Attorney General Jack Conway with the Executive Branch Ethics Commission stating that Conway has "violated the public trust" by accepting over $70,000 in campaign contributions from utility companies, their executives, and lobbyists while approving millions in rate hikes.

In addition, the complaint charges Conway's approval of higher rates for Atmos Energy financially benefits Conway, since Atmos Energy is a business partner of Kinder Morgan, a Texas natural gas company, in which Conway has invested millions.

The complaint asks the Ethics Commission for an expedited ruling on both matters as Kentucky Utilities and Louisville Gas & Electric have formally filed a $262 million rate hike request with the Public Service Commission and their request is currently pending action by the Attorney General.

"Attorney General Conway's duty is to represent rate payers-not big utility companies. It is a clear conflict of interest for Attorney General Conway who is supposed to negotiate rate increases on behalf of Kentucky rate payers to have accepted over $70,000 in campaign contributions from utility companies he is negotiating with," said Mongiardo, who held a news conference in front of the Ethics Commission.

"By approving rate increases for Atmos Energy, Attorney General Conway also financially benefits, since Conway has invested millions in Kinder Morgan, a Texas natural gas company which is a business partner with Atmos. The better Atmos Energy does, the better Kinder Morgan does, the better Jack Conway does," said Mongiardo.

Mongiardo listed examples that he believes constitute violations of Kentucky ethics laws, specifically KRS 11A.005(1)(a)--:

* In January, 2009, Attorney General Conway personally approved a $22 million negotiated rate increase for Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E), a subsidiary of utility giant E.On. Before January 2009, Conway was actively considering a race for U.S. Senate. In fact, within weeks of formally announcing his candidacy for U.S. Senate, the Attorney General solicited and accepted thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from LG&E executives and their registered lobbyists. Does the fact that the Attorney General solicited/accepted campaign contributions from the utility executives and registered lobbyists of E.On/LG&E for which he/his office negotiated and approved a $22 million rate increase constitute a violation of KRS 11A? Does it constitute a conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict of interest?

* In June 2009, Attorney General Conway solicited and/or accepted nearly $10,000 in campaign contributions from the executives and registered lobbyists with Atmos Energy, a gas utility company based in Texas that serves 176,000 gas customers in 32 Western Kentucky counties. After accepting thousands in campaign donations from Atmos executives and their registered lobbyists, Attorney General Conway once again personally approved a negotiated multi-million ($5.9 million) dollar rate increase. Does the fact that the Attorney General solicited/accepted campaign contributions from the utility executives and registered lobbyists of Atmos Energy for which he/his office negotiated and approved a $5.9 million rate increase constitute a violation of KRS 11A? Does it constitute a conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict of interest?

* While Attorney General Conway and or his office staff was negotiating the $5.9 million rate increase for Atmos Energy, Conway failed to disclose the fact that Atmos Energy - with whom he/his office was negotiating - has a business partnership with a Texas-based energy company called Kinder-Morgan. According to Attorney General Conway's Personal Financial Disclosure statements filed with this Commission and with the Secretary of the United States Senate, the Attorney General has up to $5 million dollars invested in Kinder-Morgan - 90% of his entire stock investment portfolio.

* Does the fact that a business in which the Attorney General has invested millions of dollars directly or indirectly benefits as a result of the actions taken by the Attorney General constitute a violation of KRS 11A? Does the fact that the Attorney General failed to publicly disclose his financial interest in Kinder-Morgan, a business partner with Atmos Energy for whom Attorney General Conway approved a negotiated $5.9 million rate increase that directly or indirectly benefited from the actions taken by the Attorney General and his office constitute a violation of KRS 11A?

* Earlier this year, LG&E and KU formally applied for rate increases with the PSC totaling $262 million. It is unclear at the time of this complaint whether or not the Attorney General or his staff has entered into settlement negotiations with either KU or LG&E. What is clear is that there are on-going public hearings being held across this Commonwealth to solicit public comment regarding their $262 million rate increase request. It is also clear that registered lobbyists for LG&E and KU hosted a fundraiser - while LG&E's and KU's rate increase request is pending.

* Does the fact that the Attorney General attended and accepted campaign contributions at a fundraiser hosted by the registered lobbyists of LG&E and KU, while their rate increase request is pending constitute a violation of KRS 11A? Does it represent a conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict of interest? Given the fact that the Attorney General profited from a campaign fundraiser hosted by registered lobbyists for LG&E and KU while their $262 million rate increase request is pending, should the Attorney General publicly recuse himself from having any direct or indirect involvement in negotiating with the utilities' representatives or from approving any possible negotiated rate increase that may result from efforts by his Office of Rate Intervention?

Jack Conway has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars from out-of-state special interests and National Democrats who strongly support ‘Cap & Trade.’

Jack Conway has personally invested millions of his family fortune in a Texas Natural Gas Company called Kinder-Morganą that opposes clean Kentucky coal.˛ In the past 12 months, Conway has made over $2 million in stock profits from Kinder-Morgan Energy. The worse Kentucky coal does -- the more Jack Conway pockets in profits. It’s no wonder Jack Conway supports Cap & Trade.

Conway loves him some Goldman Sachs cash.....

Jack Conway brags in his commercials that he will hold Wall Street Accountable. In a recent Direct Mail piece Conway singles out Goldman Sachs as an example of how corrupt and greedy Wall Street has become. But if you follow the money, the facts tell a different story.

According to Conway’s Federal Election Commission’s finance reports, Jack flew to New York last fall where he was a special guest at a campaign fundraiser hosted by Wall Street insiders. Records show Conway has pocketed over $106,000 from Wall Street insiders. To understand just how hypocritical Jack Conway is consider the fact that while he runs TV ads and direct mail pieces criticizing Wall Street investment banks like Goldman Sachs, Conway has pocketed almost $10,000 from current and former Goldman Sachs executives – the same Goldman Sachs that is currently under federal investigation for fraud. Other Wall Street contributors to Conway include Merrill Lynch, Bear-Sterns, EnTrust just to name a few.

Conway Continues Stonewalling
Refuses to Disclose "Stakeholders" AG Office Talked To Before Opposing
Nursing Home Rating System Favored By Nursing Home Advocates
Mongiardo Supports Kentucky Seniors and Consumer Advocates
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FRANKFORT---As reported in last Wednesday's Lexington Herald-Leader, Attorney General Jack Conway is refusing to disclose what "stakeholders" his office talked to before sending an August 20 letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius calling for suspension of a five-star rating system for nursing homes that Kentucky's leading nursing home advocates say is a valuable tool for Kentucky seniors in selecting a nursing home.

According to Jan Scherrer, vice-president of Kentuckians for Nursing Home Reform, Conway did not talk to advocates for nursing homes residents, Kentucky's long-term care ombudsman or other key state government officials who oversee nursing homes before signing the letter opposing the rating system.

The rating system-launched in December 2008---is a way to compare nursing homes based on state inspection records, staffing, and other measures. A nursing home receiving five stars is "much above average" and one star means "much below average."

According to the Herald-Leader, Allison Martin, spokesperson for Conway's office, said, "Conway talked to several stakeholders" but refused to disclose them.

"Why on earth would Attorney General Conway seek to scrap this system without even talking to Kentucky's leading nursing home advocates?" asked Kim Geveden, spokesman for Lt. Governor and U.S. Senate candidate Daniel Mongiardo.

"We call on Attorney General Conway to stop stonewalling and disclose what 'stakeholders' and consumer advocates for Kentucky nursing homes his office talked to before opposing this nursing home rating system favored by nursing home advocates. Since the nursing home industry opposes the rating system, Jack Conway should also disclose what campaign contributions he has received from the nursing home industry, owners, and employees," said Geveden.

"This issue also raises an important question: Should the Attorney General solicit campaign contributions from the very people over whom he has statutory power to bring civil and criminal charges?" asked Geveden.

"When it comes to improving the quality and safety of Kentucky's nursing homes, Daniel Mongiardo comes down on the side of Kentucky seniors and consumer advocates. He believes that the federal nursing home rating system - as imperfect as it obviously is - should remain available as one decision making tool for consumers to consider until a better, more accurate rating system is developed, " said Geveden.

"Daniel Mongiardo will be a senator who works with representatives from both sides of this issue to improve nursing home care so that all nursing homes in Kentucky can be five star facilities, providing quality care and a safe environment for every senior," said Geveden

Just an idea for the Paul campaign. I recall that in 2006, after a bitter Democratic primary, Arnold ran attack ads on Angiledes that were basically copied from Westly, with the narrator saying "maybe Steve Westly was right" at the end of the ad. Arnold managed to turn what was once a hotly contested race into a 20 point landslide, even in a very Democratic year. Even though I hate Arnold's politics, Rand could borrow the same tactics in the Kentucky race if it looks like Conway might have a chance.

Were these 'attacks' against Conway effective? The seems like only way Rand is going to win is if people that voted in the democrat primary are won over. Why did they vote for Conway? If they voted for Conway despite or because they like him being an insider then 'attacking' him for being an insider probably isn't going to work very well. There's also the "because he's not one of them (republicans)" and he's the winner.

"It feels good to vote for the winner, and that's what's really important."

"It's good that Conway made money from investing in/taking bribes from that natural gas company because it helps stop global warming."

"Cap and trade is good because it's the new carbon economy. The old economy is falling apart, see? I'm going to get money from the new carbon economy. And Goldman Sachs was just bribing Conway to help to invest in and jump start the new carbon economy. Jack Conway is an insider on helping save the planet and the economy. He knows whats best for us."

Though he backed down, our writer was threatened with "Witness Tampering" by a Kentucky deputy AG over exposing a $50k payment from an OxyContin manufacturer.

(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) - The victims of OxyContin in every state in the country as well as Canada should be aware of an event that occurred recently in Kentucky.

Attorney General Jack Conway accepted a $50,000 check from an organization called NADDI - National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators. This "Seed Grant" will fund new drug diversion efforts in Eastern Kentucky and allow the task force to expand into other areas of the state.

What is interesting about this "Seed Grant" from NADDI is that the State of Kentucky is suing Purdue Pharma for the devastation caused in their state by OxyContin death, addiction and abuse.

NADDI is funded by Purdue Pharma and their website proudly displays the "RX Patrol" insignia. RX Patrol is run by Purdue Pharma. So here's my problem, how could the State of Kentucky's Attorney General accept a $50,000 check from an organization funded by a corporation his state is suing?
