Okay, so it's not just us.

At his big press conference yesterday, where he announced "absolutely terrible" budget cuts in California, Arnold Schwarzenegger went there, comparing his state to the PIIGS of Europe.

His exact quote, via Reuters: "You see what is happening in Greece, you see what is happening in Ireland, you see what is happening in Spain now... We are left with nothing but tough choices."

You have to admire his candidness. He's right, after all.

I wonder how the American public will react to a California bailout.

Where was his candidness when he was spending California into oblivion, far worse than the democrat Gray Davis that was recalled for spending too much? What happened to all his campaign promises of slashing the budget?

Ahnold is a total joke. He's just a power hungry asshole who has no problem screwing up the lives of Californians by taking their money and giving it to the special interests.

The leaders in California are living in la la land. They just don't get it. They condemn the leaders in Arizona for making decisions to protect the citizens from illegal aliens coming across the border. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/05/12/politics/main6477429.shtml. Arizona is also being criticized for cutting programs to reduce the State budget. http://themoderatevoice.com/70946/arizona-legislature-passes-ban-on-ethnic-studies-boycott-grows/. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the State government in California are in for a rude awakening if they think the American people are going to idly stand by and do nothing while Washington bails them out with tax payer money. I have no idea how the American tax payer will react but I doubt if it will be pretty.

I live in California, and I believe I speak for everyone here, when I say we are excitedly waiting for your money to arrive.

Too bad that money will go to the government, and not actual working people.

If CA just got rid of its government, we'd boom and be the envy of the nation.

:)

I hope you folks have plenty of wheelbarrows handy because all of the bailout money you receive won't be worth much when the dollar collapses -- Zimbabwe here we come http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/international/countriesandterritories/zimbabwe/index.html :D.

BTW: At one point in time Zimbabwe (English pronunciation: /zɪmˈbɑːbweɪ/ zim-BAHB-way; officially the Republic of Zimbabwe and formerly Southern Rhodesia, the Republic of Rhodesia, was known as the bread basket of Africa.

1. California gives disproportionately more to the nation in taxes than the nation gives back, so it wouldn't be a bailout, it would be a refund .

2. I no longer enjoy Arnold's governorship, but blaming him for the budget proves you don't have any idea how California works. It is the senate, assembly, and the voters. One governor alone can't knock over that institution. It isn't like how in America the president can do anything and spend or cut anything and make congress pick up the pieces.

California has a special progressive government where the voters can pass laws. This does not exist in the federal government, nor in most other states. I suggest you start learning about California's government before you attempt to criticize it on any intellectual level.

With the initiative system voters have mandated that certain percentages of the budget go to certain areas. This puts one hand behind the back of legislatures when they try to make a balanced budget. Voters are under no such "balanced budget" obligation and can vote for any magical numbers to go to any magical locations without regard to who or how it will be paid for. This has had a tremendous negative impact on California's budget "balance" and the state's ability to pay for anything.

3. While you are criticizing Arnold for not cutting the budget, you are doing so ironically to an article about another attempt by Arnold to cut down the welfare state. He has been trying for years. There is mighty opposition to this. But you blame him? Well then I suppose we should just vote for the proponents of the welfare state then?

4. Gray Davis was not simply "recalled for spending too much". Californians looooove spending too much. He was recalled for letting Enron criminally destroy our economy. Whether he deserves the blame for that is irrelevant, we blamed him. That was #1. Rolling blackouts when there was absolutely no reason for a shortage, and energy bills at 3 or 4 times higher than they were a couple years earlier was insane.

Davis voted to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

And certainly the dotcom burst nearly wiped out an internationally famous and revolutionary Californian industry.

But Davis was fiscally moderate. The true overspending, overtaxation has come from the extreme-left fiscally hemorrhaging legistature, and voters. This hasn't changed from Davis to Schwarzenegger, and there's seems to be no change in the coming future.

Vote for whoever you want as governor, they aren't the powerhouse in California. No governor will ever fix the budget. If the budget is fixed, it will be only when the legistlature says so.

Oh really? Are you sure you can make that case with all the illegals getting government paid healthcare, education, and other goodies? This sounds like liberal entitlement talk.

With such legalized plunder going on, it is no wonder California is in such bad shape. More evidence that socialism doesn't work.

I agree, you made the point already that it isn;t Arnold's fault it is the people's fault in general and i agree with you.
