there was crazy stuff in the debates in the constitution, some of it reflective of concerns like that. very critical of the idea of democracy and appropriately so as it turns out

I doubt Jefferson ever considered himself an anarchist.

However, the series that clip is from is fantastic btw.

I wouldn't base anything about Thomas Jefferson or other founding fathers from a tv show or movie.

Jefferson was a lot more radical than most of the other founders, that's for sure. I don't know whether or not he was technically an anarchist, but history definitely would have gone differently if he and the other antifederalists had refused to compromise with Hamilton and Co.

This is fantastic. Thanks for posting! One of the Youtube commenters nailed it (for a change)

"I can't get enough of the contradiction in the idea that government is necessary because people are evil, when the government is MADE UP of individual people. Anything which you ascribe to "the people" also applies to those in government. Nothing like a violent monopoly in the hands of the very people we want to keep under control!:0 "

Too bad TJ didn't follow his own philosophy. As president he did a whole lot of things to grow the state (go back to the early Freedomain radio podcasts, Molyneux does an excellent one on Thomas Jefferson that will blow you away).

Also, check out this article by Jim Davies. 1789 was when the tyranny started! This is a great article that outlines just what was going on back then and explains why the Constitution was failing to protect people from government from the very beginning. http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig6/davies2.1.1.html

The founding fathers had brilliant ideas for their time, it's too bad Thomas Jefferson's no government philosophy didn't ultimately win out.

Fucking awesome. Thank you for posting this. The dude who played Thomas Jefferson in 'John Adams' played it very well, loved the actor/character and of course Thomas Jefferson in general...

bad thing about that HBO series is it played down the problems with Adams and ended up being a hit piece on Jefferson. I got pretty pissed towards the end.

Oh wow. This is an amazing clip. Hamilton gives away the entire sham of Central Banking and the consolidation of power under the federal government.

It's too bad that the person who originally posted that clip seemed to have an entirely different idea on who had the moral and ideological high ground in this exchange. :(

I think it's from the HBO miniseries called "John Adams" that ran a year or two ago.
