Which political parties that hold seats in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom do you/would you support (if any) and why? Other polls will follow that discuss foreign politics, a topic that we often overlook.

Conservative (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservative_Party_%28UK%29) - Right of Center (with a small libertarian faction)
Labour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Party_%28UK%29) - Left of Center
Liberal Democrats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_Democrats_%28UK%29) - Left of Center (with a small free market faction)
Democratic Unionist Party (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Unionist_Party) - North Irish Loyalists (Right of Center, Overwhelmingly Protestant Supporters)
Scottish National Party (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_National_Party) - Scottish Nationalists
Sinn Féin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinn_F%C3%A9in) - Irish Nationalists (Overwhelmingly Catholic Supporters)
Plaid Cymru (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plaid_Cymru) - Welsh Nationalists
Social Democratic and Labour Party (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Democratic_and_Labour_Party) - North Irish Loyalists (Left of Center, Overwhelmingly Protestant Supporters)
Green Party of England and Wales (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Party_of_England_and_Wales) - Environmentalists (also favor individual rights on social issues)
Alliance Party of Northern Ireland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alliance_Party_of_Northern_Ireland) - Left of Center (Secular)
Independents (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvia_Hermon) - Non-Aligned

I'd go with the Conservatives, since they've got Hannan. Horrible selection in general though.

Well I respect that Sinn Féin wants their country back, even though I don't agree with their other politics. Also UKIP for wanting out of the EU and such.

The Conservatives are less bad than the intolerable Labour, but they still suck...

I only included parties that have seats in the UK House of Commons. I may make a separate poll for EU Parliament later. Therefore, not every party was included.

Why didn't you include UKIP?

Why didn't you include UKIP?

Because, as I explained, it does not hold any seats in the House of Commons. It holds 12 seats in the European Parliament and 2 seats in the UK House of Lords.

Sinn Féin????????????? Those Communist-affiliated terrorist assholes who've been murdering protestants for 40 years in NI???

DUP all the way, Ian Paisley has it right.

+1

I might be a total secessionist here and in general support independence movements, but UK Independence movements are generally socialist front groups that survive off nationalistic sentiments. That, and DUP is the only legitimately conservative party outside the UKIP.

I just said I respect that they want their country back, not that I support the party in general.

Did you purposely leave out the British National Party (BNP)? Not that I agree with them, but they make it to the news a lot. They received 1.9% of the vote in the 2010 elections, but didn't get any seats.

That's why I left them out. There are dozens of political parties and this seemed like a fair method of making the poll manageable:

I have a problem with the conservatives because of their name. But of course I'd still vote for them.
In Europe the word conservative has a quite negativ touch. It stands for the limitation of personal freedom while "liberal" stands for economic and personal freedom.
They should go with Tory

I wouldn't support them, but you unfairly excluded the BNP.

Do they hold any seats in the House of Commons? No. If I included them then an argument could also be made for include all 367 parties in Great Britain and all 46 in Northern Ireland. What I did was fair and practical. I want to see who supports the parties that have representation in the House of Commons.

So liberal has its traditional meaning? What about the liberal democrats? There may be some that are for economic freedom, but most of them are pretty left wing. Isn't Clegg one of the more moderate in the party?

My view is that voting shouldn't be multiple choice. You should at least know who/what you are voting for and know how to spell it properly before casting a ballot. You'd get rid of a lot of party politics that way.

But most things that are voted for are completely illegitimate anyway. Nobody has the right to vote my basic rights away. We all know that.

Not so much in the UK. The UK is a lot closer to our system, where legitimate conservatives are the supporters of liberties and traditional constitutionalism. The UK has a long tradition of standing up for liberty, and legitimate UK conservatives want to conserve things like the Magna Carta and the English Bill of Rights of 1689. However, in the UK, that goes right along with the Acts of Union. You really can't have one without the other without a total paradigm shift in British politics.

That would be an interesting change if everything was write-in.

I could not vote in this poll because I could not support ANY of the parties that are represented in Westminster. They all suck to greater or lesser degrees. It is much like taking a poll of parties represented in the United States Congress (either house). Since they both really suck what's the point?

Considering there are more than 2 parties with representation, I thought it would be interesting to see the breakdown. I'll make another poll regarding some minor parties soon.
