Of 50+ businesses I've taken these to so far I've had 3 people say they had any idea who Ron Paul is. However, everyone I tell about it is very interested and it almost always starts up conversations among customers that over hear my pitch to the hostess/server/bartender/hair stylist/limo driver/taxi driver. Even managers/owners are interested in it because it could mean that they would no longer have to pay "matching taxes".

This is a great opportunity to reach a demographic that, to put it plainly, our grassroots effort has sucked at reaching so far.

It is a very, very simple thing to do, especially in a downtown area or mall where lots of restaurants, bars, and salons are close together.

You can even do it just by taking a few flyers with you the next time you go out to eat somewhere.

Yes! Everyone should be doing this.

Although the flyer Trassin posted is okay, I have one I think is more effective. You can download it here: http://files.meetup.com/535414/TaxFreeTipsAct.doc

But whichever one you use, just get out there and do it!

Those are nice, I'll have to print some up.

So if I go in some place and give these to a manager or owner what exactly should I tell them?

>> So if I go in some place and give these to a manager or owner what exactly should I tell them?

Here is a sort of script that I gave to my meetup members:

"I just wanted to let you know that Congressman Ron Paul has recently introduced a legislative act that will allow service workers to keep their tips without having to pay income and payroll taxes on them. In order for this legislation to be passed, though, people need to contact their Representative and ask them to support this Act. If you think that your workers {employees, coworkers} would benefit from knowing about this legislation, please post this flyer in your breakroom or anywhere else that all employees will be sure to see it. Thanks for your time!"

Here is my version of the flier:

http://files.meetup.com/514165/Tax-Free_Tips_Flyer_color.pdf

This version gives the phone number and web address to contact your Congressman (nationwide); it's not necessary to know one's Representative's name to use these resources to contact them.

In case anyone finds it useful, here is the email I sent to my Meetup group's members, to inform them about Tax Free Tips & to encourage them to participate in this.

It would be great if everyone on this board could copy and paste this email to their own meetup group members -- then everyone would know! (Be sure to change the relevant details before you send it.)

"Hi, Cleveland Ron Paul meetup members,

Dr. Paul has recently proposed legislation that would allow restaurant & other service workers to keep their tips without having to pay income tax on them. Informing these workers about this legislation, and about his Presidential candidacy, will be a great way to build support for Dr. Paul.

I have attached a flyer (two versions: one in color, the other black-and-white) containing information about this tax-free tips legislation & about Dr. Paul. *What we need*: to have one of these fliers posted in every restaurant & other service business in Cleveland, in their employee break-room, to spread the message. How can we accomplish this? *Every* one of us should choose 10 - 15 sit-down restaurants, bars, etc. (anywhere that servers, workers or delivery drivers get tips) and deliver a copy of this printout to each establishment.

Here is a sample script of what you could say:

"I just wanted to let you know that Congressman Ron Paul, who is running for president, has recently introduced a legislative act that will allow service workers to keep their tips without having to pay income and payroll taxes on them. In order for this legislation to be passed, though, people need to contact their Representative and ask them to support this Act. If you think that your workers {employees/co-workers} would benefit from knowing about this legislation, please post this flyer in your breakroom or anywhere else that all employees will be sure to see it. Thanks for your time!"

Ron Paul supporters in other cities have gotten a very warm response from restaurant workers, and it only takes a minute to pop in and visit each business.

There are 163 members in our Cleveland meetup group. If each person volunteers to cover 10 restaurants/service businesses, we can reach 1600+ groups of potential Ron Paul supporters!

Please consider participating in this effort. It requires minimal time, effort and money -- just print out the attachment, make 10 - 15 copies, and distribute them. We can make a huge impact if each person just does a little work.

You can email the group to let everyone know which businesses you're covering, to avoid duplicate efforts.

Thanks for your participation!"

So if I go in some place and give these to a manager or owner what exactly should I tell them?

Here's what I usually go with:

Me: Hi, have you ever heard of Ron Paul? (As I say this I hand them the flyer)

Them: No. (99.999% of the time)

Me: He is running for President of the United States. He's currently a congressman and about two weeks ago he put a bill into congress that would make all tips tax free. So myself and a few other volunteers are going around letting all the local businesses that deal in tips know about him. It would be pretty nice to no longer have to pay income tax on any of the tips you make, wouldn't it?

Depending on their response to all this I'll either give them a little more information or just say thank you and leave it at that.

Larger restaurants and salons usually tell me that they will post it in the break room. Smaller, privately owned businesses tend to be very interested and give you a chance to talk a little more. In bars it varies widely from people showing disinterest to the entire bar striking up conversations about it.

When I did it in Nashville it was part of a Ron Paul Pub Crawl. Towards the end of the night I ended up in a bar with a bit of a "counter-culture" crowd. What was going to be a really quick stop and one drink turned into me being called from table to table and having people come up to me so they could find out about Ron Paul and tell me what they thought of him. I ended up spending something like an hour in the place just talking to people.

I suggest making a business-card sized flyer, similar to the liberty card. You can leave the card with your tip everywhere you go.

For the front, I use the front of the liberty card. For the back:

I like the original flier the best because it contains Ron Paul's actual words. No matter how creative we are, he still says things best. Besides, it gives people a chance to find out who the man really is, and not try to get them to believe some sales job.

I don't usually hand this to managers because they work on salary, I give it directly to the servers. (But if you say it works with managers, that is cool.) The servers practically rip it out of my hand. I also include some slim jims and let them know they need to call Congress right away about this and go to Ron's site and sign up so they can learn about more of these kinds of things.

I also tell them that he is the only man running who cares about the people - really- and not just pretend and ask them if any other candidate has done anything that would impact them so directly and importantly or if they are all just giving you a lot of promises. Here is a guy who doesn't promise things, he just gives them to you.

Then I ask them to post it in the breakroom and make sure every other service hears about it, because it won't pass unless all of them call in to get it passed. I leave the slim jims - the new version - with them too.

We should have Meetup groups really push this across America. You could go out in teams and hit at least a hundred restaurants in a night per team. For spread out places go to all the malls. For big cities like NY, you can hit five times that number.

I like this one the best: http://therobert.org/stuff/rpmq3/TaxFreeTipsFlyer.pdf

It is simple, one page, cheap to print up and has Ron's words on it. It is a lot easier to post a one page flier in a break room.

For the Vegas folks, hit every casino and restaurant inside the casino. Remember craps dealers and keno folks may have different break rooms, so give one to every kind of dealer you see in the joint.

Get the places buzzing about this! This is the best thing I have ever used to get Ron's message out! They beg you for it!

Wha!? The flyer I posted is a two piece (or two-sided, depending on how you want to copy it) which includes the ENTIRE speech on the House floor by Dr. Paul about this bill.
