Makes sense. When jobs numbers improve, then more people may start looking for work, and that enlarges the workforce and unemployment goes up again.

Now...if the U-3 rate goes down next month by .2.......

will the headlines read...

"Less people working, despite drop in unemployment."

With an explanation of how people dropping back out of the labor pool was responsible for the decrease in unemployment???

but the U-6 numbers (the overall total unemployed) ALSO went up......to 17.1......so that's not the case here...

Kinda like how when prices skyrocket on everything you spend money on on a regular basis, like food, housing, and gas, it means "core" inflation is zero.

I may be a simpleton, but the formula for unemployment percentage should be... unemployed workers/total workers. I define total workers as all non-disabled adults between the age of 18-65.

Wow, that actually hurt my mind trying wrap my brain around that.

So, there are more jobs, but at the same time more people that are looking for work that were not working but not considered unemployed.

it gets better with the numbers!!

The unemployment rate climbs to 9.9% in April, but the economy adds 290,000 jobs, well ahead of expectations

What will happen to the numbers when the census is finished?

Thousands were hired here, How about where you are?

The census workers will not have worked long enough to collect unemployment. So they will probably just disappear and not be measured as unemployed.
