So basically, this was not any mistake. Normal trading brought the DOW down enough to trigger automatic trading systems which overwhelmed the market.

Normal trading brought the market down quite a bit, then the NYSE has pauses where if the market gets too fast, they won't make prints for a while, i think its 30 seconds. But when the NYSE paused, the electronic trading exchanges did not and traded through the spreads and bids disappeared. If you look at the prices some of these stocks traded, the volume doesn't justify the move unless there are no bids, just offers.

So much for "free" markets ... LOL! Will this con game ever end? Maybe, I should say, " will the people who participate ever tire of this con game?" No, I'm NOT advocating retreating into a hole. I am advocating sincere change through elimination of statutory law.
