UKIP candidate Nigel Farage had a miracle escape today after he was pulled from the wreckage of a horrific plane crash as he was campaigning.
The light aircraft plunged to the ground during an election stunt after a 'Vote for your country - Vote Ukip' banner streaming behind it apparently became tangled in the tail fin.
It then crashed to the ground, landing upside down with the front section completely smashed in.
The 46-year-old former party leader's curled-up body still lay in his seat, wrapped in the wreckage, when rescuers reached the airfield.
The bewildered candidate, covered in blood, managed to wriggle out with their help and was helped to his feet.
He was taken to Horton General Hospital in Banbury where he received treatment for minor injuries to his face.
The pilot had to be cut from the wreckage and was airlifted to a hospital in Coventry.
A UKIP spokesman said: 'We've had unconfirmed reports that either the banner got snagged up or there were cross-winds and it was an unfamiliar airfield to the pilot, who had to be cut out of the plane.'
Chris Adams, Ukip parliamentary candidate for Aylesbury, said: 'Nigel was unconscious but he can talk.
'He's been coming in and out of consciousness and is now being X-rayed.'
However he said he had spoken to an aviation expert who said the banner could not have got caught up in the tail fin.
