Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee David Obey, D-Wis., announced his intention to not seek re-election in 2010 on Wednesday. Joined by wife Joan and sons Craig and Doug, Obey said he wanted to spend more time with his family, and that after almost 42 years in Congress, “I’m bone tired…. It’s time to pass the torch.”

Obey also noted that he was now an old man, and that while he did not know what he was going to do next, “I do know that there has to be more to life than explaining the ridiculous, accountability destroying rules of the United States Senate to confused, angry, and frustrated constituents.”

This seems to be the Republican in the race.

Also spending big money early on are repeat candidate Dan Mielke (R), who is running against Rep. David Obey (D-Wis.) and spent $332,000

These are from his site:

Dan has never knowingly taken a farm subsidy as long as he has been farming.

War should ONLY be used in defense of our nation.
It is not the responsibility of our military to be the policemen for the world.
War should ALWAYS be a last resort.
When we commit to war, it should be properly declared by Congress and, once declared, the nation should see it to completion.

Yeah, that is the establishment one. But as I referenced Daniel Mielke is in that primary too. He has been endorsed by the state constitution party although he is a Republican.

It seems they ran an internal poll back in Feb and Mielke was way in the lead against Duffy.

Dan Mielke is a decent guy. He came to a couple of our RP Meetups during the 2008 campaign, and our recent CFL WI convention. He also attended our documentary screening in Wausau, WI. Sean Duffy was invited too, but didn't show up. We heard later he spent a week debating if he would attend or not, asking advice from party people. My friend Corey recently grilled Duffy on his policy positions at a local county party meeting, which Duffy didn't like very much.

Mielke and Duffy are both foreign interventionist candidates. There is no liberty candidate running in Obey's district. It's a no win situation.
