I'm writing a paper comparing the two countries in their approach to gun control and the results in terms of crime rates.

Any and all sources touching upon this would be much appreciated!

John Lott is the posterboy in recent years (well, really at all) when it comes to researching the numbers.
He's an economist at the University of Maryland if memory serves.
I heard him speak a couple years ago, and his reason for getting into gun facts research was that an awful lot of policy is founded on supposed facts, and he couldn't find any data from real studies. He was a totally disinterested party before getting into it - and if you talk to him it becomes clear that he's not a gun nut: he's an economist who has studied the issue.

I haven't read his gun books yet but I do remember the gem where he determined that it was statistically more likely for a minor child to drown in a joint compound bucket than it is for that child to die from a firearms accident not caused by an adult.
