Rand Paul continues to hold a dominating lead over Trey Grayson in the Republican primary for the Senate from Kentucky. It's 46-28 this month.

What's less clear is what's driving Paul's continuing dominance in the race. He does have a big lead with Republicans who think the party's too liberal, voters unhappy with the general direction of the party, and folks who consider themselves members of the 'Tea Party. But he has similarly large advantages among voters who think the party is ideologically 'about right,' folks who are happy with the current direction of the GOP, and Republicans who don't consider themselves members of the 'Tea Party.' So there's something more to Paul's current advantage than the conventional wisdom that he's effectively riding the wave of the 'Tea Party' movement.

More here...

Woah. Mitch McConnell cannot usurp an 18 point lead with exactly two weeks left.

Asked whether they have a higher opinion of McConnell or Jim Bunning, Kentucky Republicans pick the Senate Minority Leader by a 67-16 margin.

And only a 6% for Ron, but other than that awesome numbers.

Somebody add this and Rasmussen's general election numbers from yesterday here:

24% would vote for Palin
24% for Huckabee

only 18% for Newt and 13% for Mitt

Palin and Huckabee see more Paul type voters, where as Newt and Mitt for Grayson. This is probably a good thing.

How so? It's within the margin of error of the 15-point lead polls for Rand Paul.

Rand has to win this by a margin large enough that the election can't be believably stolen.

DAYUM!

I really don't think the GOP will support Rand when he wins.

has anyone usurped an 18 point lead in a US senate primary? I can't think of any in history which is a good sign

After all, it isn't as if they were playing fair.

By the way, can Trey donate to his congressional endorser's campaign from his campaign fund?

Among self-declared tea party members for 2012, Ron Paul is at 2%.

Kind of weak, no?

Marco Rubio. He was down like 25 or so and came up to force Crist out. But that took time and had special circumstances surrounding it (Crist's support for the bailout, Club for Growth endorsement and ads for Rubio, that picture of Crist hugging Obama...)

Well if we are considering the question during entire primary length, Rand Paul ursurped such a lead as well. :D

Im talking the last few weeks in the history of US Senate primaries, you would do well to find anyone who has overturned a lead like that

I speculate Rand is up so much because he's been practically everywhere in the State and shaking hands....just raw, hard campaigning.

I am sure that they weight each demographic with the likeliness they'd turn out. For example, if the electorate is generally 10% 18-29 year olds, their poll is made up 10% of 18-29 year olds. If it is 50% 55+, 50% of those polled are over the age of 55.

I do too. Its amazing how much it helps too. Most of the events were smaller, but you can't help but think the people there told all of their friends about it.

Yep

The fact is that young people don't show up at the polls. That's what destroyed Howard Dean in Iowa during the Dem primaries

that's a good point, im always struck by the amount of events he does

he must have met a lot of active GOP voters one on one and they liked him which is also why the attacks have failed

Wow, so 26% of the people at this point have either not decided, or are voting for other guys. So even if Mitch's endorsement gets Trey 18% out of those 26%, that would only tie him with Rand, assuming Rand will not lose or gain any support. Pretty good spot to be in right now.

THANK GOD! We really needed this. The first news of the day was less than encouraging. So glad to see it followed up with this.

Please folks, if there's ANYTHING you can do to help in these final days, try and make every effort to do so. Whether you can get to KY to volunteer, or simply make a last minute donation to help blanket the airways, don't let the opportunity pass you by.

We must fight this battle tooth and nail until the last vote is counted (and, yes, maybe beyond.)

We MUST win this!

Mongiardo, who has also led by double digits for much of the race, now leads 36-27.
Wow, i didn't look early.

I did an internal poll back when the campaign started and Rand was originally 24 points behind.

Let me get a press release out!

No man. It's better this way. People will see the endorsement and see that Rand is up 18 points and think that the race is as good as over.

That's good....As long as we are not part of those "people".
