View Full Version : Ron Paul surpasses the 200,000 mark on Facebook!

200,017 people on Facebook are now friendly to the Liberty movement. Compare that to pre-2007, when Dr. Paul only had 50,000 Facebook supporters.

If you haven't befriended Ron on Facebook yet, what're you waiting for?!

We're still up against some stiff competition. Here are some of our familiar foes' online support:

Mitt Romney: 302,256 supporters
Sarah Palin: 1,543,773 supporters ( )
Mike Huckabee: 217,951 supporters

We're not too far behind Huckabee, but Palin's numbers are astonishing.

Our movement is known to have strong Internet support, so there's no reason why we shouldn't be neck-and-neck with Palin...

I dont care about any of that shit

It's one of the easiest ways to virally spread the message when people see what page you are a fan of.

Also when Ron Paul releases a statement or points to an article 200,000 see it instantly. That is a big deal.

Ron's facebook was dormant for a long time after the campaign, that explains why its only 200k

Sarah Palin should not be this popular. The only candidate that can rival Ron Paul in activism in 2012 will be Sarah Palin unfortunately.

I think the reason people like Romney are going up so fast is because of the ads on facebook. I've asked to 'like' Romney almost everyday due to other political fan pages I have....

Otherwise, I'm bamboozled as to how everyone else is growing faster than Ron Paul is.

Otherwise, I'm bamboozled as to how everyone else is growing faster than Ron Paul is.

I suspect the main reason why every Republican contender has steadily been rising since I started posting these updates is because of the growing unpopularity of Obama.

Put in a different way, the Obama/Reid/Pelosi trifecta is the best thing to happen to the Republican Party in a long time.

I can't take credit for it though, all I really did was ask her to look him up, but that is hard enough when talking to apolitical people.

I'm staunchly against forcing him onto people, all I do is bring him up and ask some simple questions (not in a partisan manner).

The best part was when 3 of her young friends commented on her 'liking' Ron Paul, all in support

You're assuming that 1) they're all of voting age (or will be at the right time) 2) they are "likely voters". The anonymity of Facebook makes this impossible to prove. As I said before, when this supposed internet enthusiasm materializes in massive voter turnout, donations, and such, I'll believe it.

Why does it have to be massive? If gives a lot of additional donations for a very small cost to RP's team, it is still worth it, even if it isn't massive.

If 1% of RP supporters on Facebook who read a message about a moneybomb donate 10$, that alone will bring an additional 20,000 for the moneybomb.

And how much would that cost to RP's team? Nothing. Writing a facebook message to your supporters has the same cost and difficulty as creating a post on RPF, and the message shows in the facebook front page (newsfeed) of each particular user. Note that the numbers I mentioned, 1% and 10$, could be much higher.

It has to be massive to counter the campaigns of the other contenders, who will likely be doing similar things. The other contenders will also have monied interests behind them, unlike the "quixotic" underdog, RP.

Yeah...we don't see the same sort of grassroots events done by Mitt Romney and company. A money bomb to him is a trip to the bank...

One particular action doesn't have to be massive to be valuable. The combined actions it's what has to be massive. RonPaulForums' mailing list influence in donation is very small. It has only 25k members, and that's a small number considering that RP received about 300k donations in 2008. Should Josh close RPF or stop sending e-mails because his list isn't massive?

You won't see anything, just like you don't see the percentage of people on RPF's mailing list that decide to donate after receiving a message from Josh or reading about it in the forums. This is something you can only think and grasp.

Also more people on Facebook and people becoming more active. Obama has risen to over 11.7 million people now. Which dwarfs all these people combined.

Okay, so? If this ever materializes into something substantial, then I'll care.

It's not perfect but considering that over half the population of the US is on Facebook I think there is a pretty strong correlation between "likes" on Facebook and overall popularity. It's the closest thing you can get to a poll of 150 million Americans. Of course there is a self selecting bias.
