A microwave oven containing a suspected explosive device and pasta was detonated Sunday morning near the finish line of the 2010 Pittsburgh Marathon, which attracted tens of thousands of people to the city.

The Pittsburgh Bomb Squad secured the sidewalk where the microwave was found in front of the Greyhound Transportation Center at 11th Street between Penn and Liberty avenues at about 7:20 a.m.

For a period of time, police diverted a portion of the half-marathon away from the scene. There were no injuries.

"(Officers) rendered the package safe before the rest of the runners got through the area of the finish line," Pittsburgh Police Chief Nate Harper said.
