Maybe you have not seen a current tread. I guarantee, health permitting, Ron Paul will be running in 2012.

Polls are not done for fun, he does not say in interviews "If president I would do this and that" for fun.

He has also said if we urge him to run he will.

What happens if we maxed out to candidates we want to support? Can we not buy Ron Paul items?

Others have given some reasons, but I'll give another reason to spend money on things like this if you want to.

"Ron Paul 2012," if he runs again, will I'm sure have a specific design to it just like it did in 2008. There will also be more entries into the Grassroots movement versions of logos, slogans, and whatnot. There's nothing "official" about this, so his actually running is irrelevant to whether or not the buttons and shirts should be bought/worn. I am perfectly sure somewhere out there, there are "RandomPopStar 2012!" shirts, even if the person in question probably won't be able to drink legally, let alone become President.

What "Ron Paul 2012" gear does is support a movement, draw attention, and hopefully arouse a little curiosity. At this point it even provides a bit of a merit badge at events, so that people know you're on board for the future. You might see this button right above previous "Ron Paul" buttons, letting you know what "battles" the person you're talking to has been involved in :)

The pins and shirts listed so far are from people within the movement, and money just goes right back into it. They're not massive purchases. Just because you support a candidate does not mean you stop supporting the economy or needing a new tee shirt, or wanting a new button.

You could buy the buttons and do something creative (but please, not vulgar) with them :D

There is more benefit to be gained from campaign paraphernalia than just helping a candidate win an election. It helps raise the profile of the movement and ideology. If you are convinced Ron will choose to NOT run then that is all the more reason to use this time now BEFORE he officially closes the door on the idea.

Do you really think that all the 2008 paraphernalia was a complete waste because he ended up loosing badly? Of course you don't. Our movement is where it is now largely because of all the signs, flyers, blimps, buttons, etc. that we spammed (or...I mean "distributed") the country with. It's an educational campaign as much as it is a political campaign. The later makes a nice platform to promote the former.

I say that the very fact that Ron Paul may very well decide not to run is all the more reason we need to start with the signs and buttons NOW. That way, we can get the benefit of using a Ron Paul 2012 run as a soapbox and megaphone even without him actually running. We may even have a full year or so before he officially says he is not running. At that point we will have to switch our efforts to whomever the Ron Paul light candidate will be (Gary Johnson or whoever).
