Stutzman actually has the chutzpah to delay the tax increase AFTER the election!!!

HEA 1379 is an unprecedented tax increase on Indiana employers both large and small at a time of severe economic hardship. In the aggregate, it represents a more than $700 million tax increase over two years borne solely by businesses and employers. Many employers will see increases of 150%; the vast majority of even the smallest firms will experience a minimum 35% rate increase under the new wage base and rate schedules.

Worse than higher taxes, it will lead – ironically – to more job losses and higher unemployment as marginal firms attempt to adapt to increased operating costs. Worse yet, the tax increases embodied in HEA 1379 do not fix the problem of the UI fund’s financial insolvency.

Not having a warchest is going to significantly hinder Hostettler's chances. He could run potent ads that could decimate Stutzman's support.

I hypothesize that Demint's endorsement of Stutzman was as much of an anti-Hostettler move as it was pro-Stutzman.

Same thing goes for Mike Huckabee who just endorsed Stutzman today.

It's too bad we couldn't marshal support for him... not pure enough for some.

Hostettler is basically a much younger Ron Paul aside from some minor discrepancies. I find that hard to believe. Hostettler's people should have tried to reach out to CFL earlier.

Earlier than when?

Hostettler has been extremely outspoken in his opposition to the neocon agenda. He had to be defeated. Stutzman likely was picked out of a hat. They just needed a patsy to take enough votes to swing the election to Coats. Anyone would have done.

Granted, DeMint had probably already made up his mind about Stutzman, but we could have done better on this Senate Conservatives Fund Poll. If we had gathered enough support for Hostettler on that poll, it's possible DeMint would not have split our vote...

Demint and Huckabee are all big religous pro lifers....Stutzman is a hard prolife candidate.

This is why he gets support. That and the fact Hostettler does not support the wars

Hostettler is extremely pro-life. Stutzman doesn't have anything on Hostettler on that issue. For Demint, it's about wars. For Huckabee, it's about hating any influence that constitutionalist small-government conservatives have on the GOP.

Supporting a candidate because of pro-life but who is also pro-taxes and soft on fiscal conservatism is beyond foolishness. This is a certain: Abortion is not coming up as a voting issue in the Senate. Taxes and spending certainly are.
