China never fails to top itself when it comes to human rights violations; most recently the Communist Chinese government forced sterilizations of Puning County parents and the torture of Falun Gong practitioners. by Raven Clabough

Although Michael Moore is most certainly an ignorant douche, regardless - China isn't and hasn't been communist for quite a while now.

China has more like an 'authoritarian clumsy capitalist' system actually.

But...That's like saying Israel and the U.S celebrate X number of years of "Democracy" and "freedom" then isn't it?

I agree with Sentient. on this one

Yes well, the Unites States forced sterilized 1 million plus Iraqis with forced bullet injections and raining bomb clinics - they can't reproduce anymore either.

Looking for bigger bogey men to distract from the actions of the domestic state monstrosities is a favorite tactic of the disillusioned.

Can we at least agree that China violates Human Rights?

China's One Child Policy sucks.

China has never had a communist governmental system, it has had a Communist Party.
Likewise, The Soviet Union had a democratic socialist governmental system ruled by a party called the Communist Party.
An example a communal governmental system is a monestary, or early christian sect, or a hippy commune.

I don't think anyone here will disagree that China is horrible with civil rights. They've been violating civil rights for decades - one great example is the Massacre at Tianenmen Square.

Hence the 'authoritarian' part of them being 'authoritarian clumsy capitalism'.

In fact, China is actually more capitalistic than the US in terms of how it 'regulates' businesses, etc... which is quite sad if you ask me. I've read that it takes less time to start a business and is easier to run in China than it does over here in the US.

There's no question though that China has been cooking it's books as well though. Hence the 'clumsy' part. And how they mix state ownership with the capitalist methods.

The US has much, much stronger civil liberties though, obviously.

China was much closer to communism decades ago - under Mao Zedong and the like... but as communist China was collapsing under it's own weight and people starving and in poverty, etc... they instituted much more capitalist polices and loosened state control of the market significantly. This is how they so quickly industrialized and have been getting a much higher standard of living in the past few decades.

So China is like the US?

So China is like the US?

Not necessarily - I'd say China is a bit more capitalist, but the US is much, much better on civil liberties. For now, of course...

Either way - neither is a very good beacon of capitalism... at *all*.

Personally, I like Hong Kong. Their EFI is *amazing*. Though civil liberties could be better (but I don't think are much worse than the US, not sure though).

I'd really like to see the US go back to a federal system of govt more similar to the late 1800s.
