Did the police have a valid warrant?

Define valid.

I other words. Did the journalists commit a crime?
What crime? or are the police fishing?

According to this article the cops had a warrant, people are outraged, and the raid was gestapo-like:

The photographs were seized during the execution of a search warrant on Friday, April 16, and include both published and unpublished photographs from the riot.

News of this incident has traveled quickly, garnering outcry from many major organizations.

Another letter was sent to Garst by Gwen Woolf, President of the Virginia Press Women, saying she was “dumbfounded” upon hearing what had happened, referring to Friday’s incident as a “Gestapo-like raid.”

Good.

The fourth estate is getting a taste of what it's like.

I would like nothing more than to have them jarred out of their traditional complacent support for the people who do this.

if the on campus JMU student newspaper is under the 4th estate protections & has not instigated
the situation on APRIL 10th of 2010 and has only had PRIVATE non-public photographs on file
to the degree where 600 of the 900 photos were filed away and not public access, i feel this
situation infringes on free speech even if there was property damage during the incident.
