I heard that Ron Paul endorsed him, so I went to his site to check out his issues page.

Missing from that page are the following:

# Traditional Marriage
# Taxes and spending
# National Security
# Foreign Policy
# Judicial Nominations

Are his issues listed anywhere else, or do I have to wait a couple weeks?

Yeah, getting that section of the website finished has been slow in coming.

The good news is that he has an extensive record on all of those things. Is there any item you're especially interested in?

If it's foreign policy, a good place to start is his speech from the House floor opposing the authorization of force against Iraq.

Voted for Real ID.

Voted YES on restricting independent grassroots political committees.

That sounds anti-free speech.

Voted YES on banning Internet gambling by credit card. (Jun 2003)

Voted YES on increasing fines for indecent broadcasting. (Feb 2005)

Voted YES on banning gay adoptions in DC. (Jul 1999)

Tell me he's changed his mind.

This is more of a strategic vote. The issue is the WAR. People won't be able to ridicule Ron Paul anymore if Hostettler's speeches on the Senate and maybe even places like CPAC support non-interventionism.

Hostettler is better on foreign policy than both Rand and Schiff. Hostettler also voted for Ron Paul in '08 and said that will gladly vote for Ron again if he decides to run in 2012. Now Ron Paul endorsed Hostettler.

If he is not good enough for you, don't send him money, but please don't discourage others from doing so.

Yeah, ill be sending him a check on the 22nd. Hes going to need all the money he can get. He is going up against the GOP hand picked candidate.

Voted for Real ID.

...which was a states rights compromise to circumvent a national ID bill, which Hostettler opposes. If you don't want Real ID, work to make sure your state doesn't get it, and be glad we don't have national ID and have a chance to get someone in the Senate who will oppose it.

That sounds anti-free speech.
Do you know anything about that bill? Or is the mention of it on the ontheissues site the first time you heard of it and you assume you understand what it was based on their 5 word description?

Tell me he's changed his mind.
I doubt it. The Constitution gives Congress jurisdiction over Washington DC. I'm positive he wouldn't support a federal law imposing that same ban on all the states. Nor would he tolerate any federal legislation or court action that would prevent states from having such a ban.

Thanks man. That's great to hear.

Is there any chance you can do that online instead though, so it helps make that ticker go up during the money bomb?

Okay, explain the positive aspects of the bill, please.

By the way, I was asking if he changed his mind about all of the things I cited.

I don't know anything about it. I've just learned over my time researching politicians' records that you need to be cautious before basing much on a sound bite description of something at ontheissues.

Hence my answer, "I doubt it." I really don't think he's changed his mind on much of anything over the years.

No, he's not perfect, but let's not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Ron Paul went out of his way to endorse John because he's a strong ally on many issues and he is hated by the establishment. He voted for Ron Paul in the primaries and Chuck Baldwin in the general election because he believes the "GOP has lost its way on conservative principles."
