View Full Version : Stephen Colbert last night

Did anyone catch Stephen Colbert's opening comment last night about the Bilderbergers not assasinating a freelance journalist? It was very weird and sounded like it was impromptu. He then looked at one of the audience members and said "you owe me one".

That was Luke Rudkowski of wearechange in the audience. Luke asked him about it before the show.

He's also tried to smear Assange on his show (http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2010/04/13/liberals-smear-wikileaks/). He's the wikileaks guy who got the Collateral murder video posted. Beware the Colbert for anything but comedy commentary.

Yes... :D

I already mentioned several times that sometimes "they" say and do "things" right in your face for: a) Fun b) To mix reality with fiction/comedy so the line separating this 2 things become blurred. But i get called crazy :D

I also mentioned several times that Jon Stewart or Colbert (and others) have ALOT of power for simple comedians...alot of power... bu i get called crazy :)

YouTube - Archie Bunker on Gun Control (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLjNJI54GMM)

Saying exactly like it is but in a fictional/comical context so the line between reality and fiction becomes blurred and to denegrate any "conspiracy theory", they have been doing this for decades.

Jason Chaffetz (once said there was something wrong with 911) gets humiliated:

http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/217896/february-04-2009/exclusive---utah-s-3rd

(but that is just normal, just comedy :D )

Dan Maffei´s Evil Twin:

http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/224011/april-07-2009/better-know-a-district---new-york-s-25th---dan-maffei

(thank God that was just comedy and Maffei´s "evil twin" right? it would be silly to think that the whole scene is serious and Maffei´s Evil Twin is actually the real Maffei :D )

There is plenty more, search "Giant Head of Brian Williams" for example or watch some of the interviews between him and Jon Stewart, they really hate each other but somehow he is submissive to Stewart, if a "respected" journalist submits himselfs like that i wonder what a bad journalist is :D

There is...plenty more if you open your eyes... :D

I agree with the sentiment that Colbert should not be trusted. The way we tried to marginalize Assange from wikileaks made me uncomfortable. I don't think he would do the same thing during the Bush years.

During the Citizens United debacle, he had Chris Dodd on and treated him as an anti-corporate champion of clean government. It's not just that CU was oversimplified and overhyped by liberal commenters, it was watching him shine Dodd's shoes with a straight face that made my skin crawl.

He's done biting satire of Obama in the past but he's becoming more and more of a loyalist it seems.

Uh... His entire show is a satire of Republican talk shows:
The character, described by Colbert as a "well-intentioned, poorly informed, high-status idiot", is a caricature of televised political pundits.[3][4]

Ohhhh if you open your eyes and stop being a "media person" and if you step out of the "Left vs Right" stuff you start to see very strange things right in front of your eyes.

Hollywierd actress/liberal useful idiot Susan Sarandon:

Their first dialogue:

SC: "What a surprise to find you here. Thank you so much, what a joy"
SS: "Imagine my surprise! (nervous laughter)"
SC: "You didnt know where the limo was taking you didnt you?"
SS: "Nooo..."

But that is just comedy and im crazy :D

There is plenty more if you open your eyes.

I'm well aware, but he sometimes legitimately lashes out at Obama. For example, in neocon pundit mode, he talked lovingly about his Iraq pullout plan (same as Bush's) saying it was the type of change he could believe in, change that wasn't change at all.

He doesn't do that anymore.

You guys should actually watch Colbert before you criticize him.

Yes, he was attacking Assange during the interview, but if you watch the whole thing, you see that Colbert gives Assange a mostly fair interview, and was generally uninformed about Assange's motivations and reasons for presenting an edited video. He came around to some degree by the end of the interview. After all, Colbert did do a week of shows in Baghdad, and may still be a little defensive if someone criticizes the actions of a soldier. Here's the unedited interview, see what you think:

http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/260785/april-12-2010/exclusives---julian-assange-unedited-interview

This Bilderberg thing gives further evidence that Colbert is on our side. He may not be perfect, as his attitude going into the Wikileaks interview shows, but he is definitely on our side.

I mean, shit, anyone who has the cajones to do this deserves your respect:

I don't watch Colbert enough to know his views. But I think if anyone talks for 30 minutes a day five days a week about political issues you are probably going to agree with him some of the time and disagree with him others. For the most part I take that for what it is. Most people are not our "enemies" but they are not our "saviors" either.

Why did they invited him in the first place? You think they werent expecting the Bush bashing from him??? And what about Bush wife saying a very sincere looking "Well done!" after Colbert was over?

When they invited him and made him a speaker im sure they were expecting him to be nice...lol...

That whole scene represents the "Left vs Right" false paradigma perfectly, right there in front of everyone´s eyes, and yet, to you, that scene represents Colbert being an hero! :D The power of TV...what TV does to peoples minds...it twists everything upside down...

They invited him because they thought he would just take small, "good spirited" jabs, and not really go after Bush on issues like the war and civil liberties.

Did you not agree with much of what Colbert was saying? I certainly did.

As you've demonstrated before, it's clear you weren't really listening.

SC: "Try without laughing because people will think its a joke..."

Pete isn't spelling it out but I think he is implying that Colbert is some sort of demonic figure. I'm gathering that from the Ephesians quote and the content of his post. It's fine and dandy if you're religious but you really shouldn't make those sort of accusations without empirical evidence. The world isn't black and white. He's been on our side before but recently has used his platform to make increasingly partisan points through satire. I'd say he's not always intellectually honest but he's done good before.
