View Full Version : Is America an Empire or a Republic?

I have the feeling that America was a Republic until she emerged as a world power in 1945. Today invading one country after the other, she reminds me of the Roman Empire, a state that was continually at war.

If you agree that America has become an Empire, is it too late to become a Republic again?

It's okay we're an Imperial Republic like many countries before us.

Well, we don't have an Emperor, though as they keep empowering the executive that may change.

America became an empire with the Louisiana Purchase.

Numerous events occurred to move us from a constitutional republic, e.g. the passing of the 17th * & 16th amendments, which stripped states of their voice in Washington, DC and allowed for financing the empire by forced taxation of the people's wealth.

* The purpose of the bicameral legislature was to allow one chamber for the people's voice (HR) and the other chamber for the state's voice (Senate)

Why is there so much lip service given to the constutution, but nobody wants to return to your ancient Republic? Youve become an empire and nobody talks about returning back to a Republic. Sad.

Even Rome went from a Republic to an Empire.

At least we don't CALL our presidents Emperors...

The USA path to become an empire started before. It started at the end of the XIX century beggining of the XX.

doesn't matter if someone is called an emperor or not, corporations act like emperors and lord over other countries and this one -- a de facto empire

Lets talk about Trolls.

Why do trolls do it?

I believe that most trolls are sad people, living their lonely lives vicariously through those they see as strong and successful.

Disrupting a stable newsgroup gives the illusion of power, just as for a few, stalking a strong person allows them to think they are strong, too.

For trolls, any response is 'recognition'; they are unable to distinguish between irritation and admiration; their ego grows directly in proportion to the response, regardless of the form or content of that response.

Trolls, rather surprisingly, dispute this, claiming that it's a game or joke; this merely confirms the diagnosis; how sad do you have to be to find such mind-numbingly trivial timewasting to be funny?

Remember that trolls are cowards; they'll usually post just enough to get an argument going, then sit back and count the responses (Yes, that's what they do!).

Troll - Angler or Underbridge Dweller?

The term 'Internet troll', originated in a comparison with the angler who 'trolled' a trailing bait to catch a fish. But for non-anglers, the mental image of a troll is the slabby, thick, moss-laded creature of Scandinavian folk lore, further popularised by Terry Pratchett in the Discworld novels, and J. K. Rowling in the Harry Potter books. This sad figure of fun lived under bridges and startles the unwary, but is easily outsmarted by anyone with any intelligence, or a small dog.

The truth is somewhere between the two.

Nothing you have said here has been to the edification of any Ron Paul Forum member in my opinion.

Amerika is a socialist democracy and has been for a number of years. However given a little more time and another 4 years of Obama we can and most likely will become a marxist dictatorship.

...is it too late to become a Republic again?

As long as the voters limit themselves to electing only Democrats or Republicans there will be no change.

Unless Pat Buchanan, Noam Chomsky or Garet Garrett are liars, the US is an empire.
