That is disgusting. Hopefully his sergeants were 'enlightened' a bit by higher-ups. The random anonymous harassment is heinous, but not really unique to any location or profession unfortunately.

A bit of perspective. In my unit we have had an Iranian girl fluent in Farsi and we now have a man who's first name is Osama (so figure out how he feels). Although I have heard remarks about his first name, neither have ever come under any racial attacks or had any problems nor will I allow it to within my span of control. In my career I've experienced very little overt racism, but I have to admit that the nature of this conflict has bred much more of it, not to mention the lessening of standards during the Bush years to bring in as many recruits as possible.
