Claude Lanzmann directed the film Shoah. It's a nine hour documentary about the Holocaust and probably the greatest film I've ever seen. It's an unbelievable masterpiece. Guys like Michael Moore are simply "entertaining in my opinion.

It's pretty unremarkable if your idea of "film" is Lord of the Rings trilogy.

You also don't have Errol Morris on there. He's directed some of the best too and makes Moore look like a noob.

Lord of the Rings isn't a documentary. I have not heard of Shoah, but is that really a documentary, or just a movie?

I never said LOR wasn't a film.....How do read so much into something that isn't there?

Good film isn't special effects and lots of quick scene cuts, etc. In other words, it's not going to have bells whistles which most people want out of something like a Moore documentaries. UNREMARKABLE is the key word there. ;)

Shoah is a documentary. I know LOR isn't a documentary.

Maybe you were simply wanting opinions on Political directors, in which case I'm out of my lane.

They've never made a full-length documentary film, but Penn & Teller's show is like a weekly mini-documentary, and I think that if those two actually made a major theatrical film romp a la Michael Moore, their convincing arguments and keen satire would help many people come to see the state as a joke.

Since this was themed for political liberty documentaries. This is the best film made recently and I guess one of the best directors

Eugene Jarecki

Documentary – “Why we fight?” (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9219858826421983682#)

That's a good movie. Still doesn't compare to Loose Change, though. If you are anti-war, Loose Change is as good as it gets.
