HALEY BARBOUR????????

He seems like a nice guy to share a bottle of JD with, but as far as being influencial in the GOP.....I am sure Ron Paul has higher recognition levels than Haley.

It is nothing more than the Post trying to make the GOP look stupid. Barbour is nothing more than the usual GOP talking point, the southern accent makes him such a stereotype, the elites can not resist.

uhmmm... minus Barbour, which maybe he has more influence than I am aware of, I think the list is pretty much dead on in any order...

remember, the headline isn't "10 best republicans" or something...

don't get your panties in a wad over this guys...

Well just what the hell do they mean by "influential" anyway? Ron Paul influenced the modern Tea Party even though they won't admit it. Seems like everyone these days wants to audit the Fed and most of them didn't even know what a Fed was until recently.
He just doesn't get the credit he deserves.

your comment may or may not be true at face value, but you're blaming the
wrong "party" here -- the list was made by journalists, not Republicans.

Republicans truley the party of idiots.

There is the stupid party and the evil party.

Every so often they get together and do something that is evilly stupid.

This is called "bi-partisanship".

Haley Barbour's most popular youtube video has about 17k views. Is that not a good indicator of influence??

Are we talking about influencing the people or influencing things behind the scenes? I honestly did not know who Haley Barbour was before reading this thread.

Somebody had to vote/support these scoundrels into office or the limelight. Whether or not the list is correct, the Republican Party is a evil joke.

It's quite true. If Ron Paul was among the top 10 most influential politicians, we wouldn't be so screwed as we are.

Was he the one that started that meme, or has the word gone out from TPTB?

The RP - L La R connection smear is popping up all over the place.

I'm reminded of a scene from the movie Major League.

Couple of construction workers reading over the new Cleveland Indian line up.

"Who the fuck are these guys?"

Just sent Mr. Chris Cillizza an email. Here it is:

---

Hi Chris, just wanted to respond to your article here:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/the-line/haley-barbour-influence.html

Why no mention of Ron Paul as a top influence in the Republican Party? Here's his case:

1) Garnered over 1.2 million votes in the 2008 primaries,
2) Won CPAC 2010 straw poll,
3) Tied for 1st place with Romney in the SRLC 2010 straw poll,
4) Long tenure in the House Financial Services Committee,
5) Two bestseller books (The Revolution and End the Fed),
6) One of very few who saw the 2008 financial collapse and subsequent recession coming years before they happened (he was on the record about these issues),
7) Wrote key legislation in 2009 to Audit the Federal Reserve, which received 319 cosponsors in the House,
8) Will unveil new legislation this week (4/12) to allow Americans to opt out of the Healthcare mandate (something ALL Republicans will support).

His ideas certainly have a libertarian influence in the Republican Party, and has a massive following of passionate supporters. How can someone like Pete Sessions be deemed to have more influence than Ron Paul?

I have a feeling there will be four more years of Obama unless the Republican Party offers some sort of olive branch to the old school conservatives.

That is where/when you will see the influence of Ron Paul.

Cilizza is a writer. My guess he's just trying to curry favor with the people on the list.

Again, guys, there's really no need to point fingers in this. Frankly, he's not very influential at all in D.C. - that is the whole problem. A vast majority of his legislation has been ignored, and he continues to be marginalized.

Considering Washington D.C. is largely the enemy, why would he carry much weight with them at all. Being 'influential' and 'best' are two entirely different things.
