This one slipped by me and I couldn't find anything here when I searched so thought I would forward to all of those who so love our empire building.

"Adam Namm, acting director of the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations, said the building would cost about $1 billion – "in the ballpark of the most expensive embassies we have built."

At least we can be assured that they won't be sacrificing style for safety now.

""It is a crystal form that is light filled and light-emitting," he said – a far cry from the grim concrete boxes that house many U.S. diplomatic missions...

The State Department has vastly increased security at U.S. embassies around the world since the 1998 bombings of the U.S. missions in Kenya and Tanzania, and has often been criticized for sacrificing style for safety with bland, fortress-like buildings"

Thats f***ing ridiculous, what in the world do we need that for? We don't live in 1902 anymore, we have phones, webcams, the internet, email, and on and on and on. Why do we even need an office there, much less an extravagant piece of real estate like this? I mean what in the world are the people working there going to be doing on a daily basis? Giving British people free tea paid for by us to show how nice we are? There's no point for this!

Just to get an idea, how much do buildings typically cost? I have no basis to make a judgment on the financial cost of this. Though i'm leaning towards god-awful expensive.

Are rulers need a place to relaxe within the means of thier security, and host cocktail partys, and once-in-awhile host other "partys", were the news and media, with exempting of a few reporters that take part in the partys, would have no ideal of.

I've noticed alot of the new federal government facilities that have been built within the last few years have moats.

Think about it - why is that?

For security, they know about whats fixin to happen

Told dh about the moat at the dinner table tonight. I was wondering how popular this would become again. It is ridiculous not to see how ridiculous this is unless there is a reason for the preemptive planning.
