Despite some expressed concerns about the crudeness and cultural conservatism of many Tea Party activists, it has become clear that most self-conscious libertarians are willing to participate in, and cheerlead for, the Tea Party movement as though their political futures depend on it.

My impression was that libertarians, while pleased with some of the rhetoric of the more recent Tea Parties (as distinct from the Tea Party of Ron Paul, some years back), were distrustful of the Republican Party angle, and thus a bit skeptical.

However, I don't keep up with libertarian politics.

Can somebody set the record, straight?

I don't. I appreciate that they are FOR fiscal restraint, but I am not a cheerleader of them, or anyone, for that matter. I think of them as allies, but I don't declare allegiance to them or anything :)

I am so tranquil right now.

Libertarians only make up a small % of the "tea party"in Kentucky.

Ron Paul supporters were maybe 10% (if that) at the April 15th 2009 tea party in BG.

Most people IMO are libertarian, they just don't know it. Or they are libertarian when it comes to themselves, but not for other people. lol

"Progressives" better clean their own damn house up, and get rid of the war hawks, empire builders, deficit spenders and liberty crushers of their own first.

Until they do, and as long as the keep up offering lame excuses for same, they are just a miserable mirror image of the neo-con right.

Progressives are just people that want to tell you what to do. That about sums them up. Hell, they all want to TELL ME something. :)

minarchists: YOU MUST ACCEPT A MONOPOLY OVER THE USE OF FORCE /state

progressives: YOU MUST ACCEPT HIGH TAXES, INCREASED REGULATION, YOU MUST GIVE UP YOUR GUNS, YOU MUST BE MANDATED TO BUY PRODUCTS, OH, AND ALL OF YOUR RIGHTS COME FROM THE STATE!

conservatives: YOU CAN'T SMOKE WEED, YOU CAN'T PLAY VIOLENT GAMES, YOU CAN'T HAVE SEX WITH FARM ANIMALS, YOU HAVE TO ALLOW US TO DEVALUATE THE CURRENCY YOU USE SO THAT WE CAN NATIONBUILD, YOU CANNOT MARRY WHOMEVER YOU CHOOSE

socialists: WE MUST REDISTRIBUTE EVERYONE'S WEALTH, YOU MUST DO AS WE SAY NOT AS WE DO. WE ARE VIRTUALLY THE SAME AS PROGRESSIVES SO NO NEED TO GO ON.

communists: WE ARE SOCIALISTS/LIBERALS/PROGRESSIVES WITH A GUN TO YOUR HEAD. A REAL NAME, WE DON'T FUCK AROUND WITH FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE

greens: SAME AS PROGRESSIVES BUT WE ARE MORE ABOUT MANDATING YOU BACK TO THE STONE AGE WITH PRE-INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION ENERGY SOURCES, SUCH AS WIND, SOLAR, AND MANUALLY POWERED PLANTS WHERE PEOPLE POWER THE GENERATORS WITH SEX

anarchism: From the words of William Wallace: FREEDOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!

You have expressed openly what I feel. I absolutely do NOT trust mainstream GOP figures like Sarah Palin taking over the national tea party movement. I view her as a shill for neocon McCain. I was very disheartened to see she was a keynote speaker at a national tea party gathering.

I was involved with the formation of a tea party in my local area a year ago, but don't involve myself any more. I plan to go to a meeting this week and if somebody asks me my opinion I am going to state it: "The word 'Constitution' does not even appear on the tea party home page." That is my acid test for even considering a political candidate. Go to his/her website, Control-F and look for the word Constitution.
