Looks like the Ron Paulers that were booted for asking too many questions were onto more than they even knew about. This is from the St Pete Times:

Junior Florida Republican Party staffer had $1.3 million charged to party credit card (http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/stateroundup/junior-florida-republican-party-staffer-had-13-million-charged-to-party/1086335)

She was a 25-year-old junior staffer when the Florida Republican Party gave her an American Express card.

Over the next 2½ years, nearly $1.3 million in charges wound up on Melanie Phister's AmEx — $40,000 at a London hotel, and nearly $20,000 in plane tickets for indicted former House Speaker Ray Sansom, his wife and kids, for starters. Statements show thousands spent on jewelry, sporting goods and in one case $15,000 for what's listed as a month-long stay at a posh Miami Beach hotel, but which the party says was a forfeited deposit.

The credit card records, obtained by the St. Petersburg Times and Miami Herald, offer the latest behind-the-scenes look at extravagant and free-wheeling spending by the party touting fiscal restraint. Not only did certain elite legislative leaders have their own party credit cards to spend donors' money with little oversight, but Phister's records show these leaders also liberally used an underling's card — without her knowledge, she says.

"I did not have the sole discretion to initiate credit card spending," Phister said in an e-mail statement. "Over that period of time, there were multiple instances when the card was used to make purchases that I had no knowledge of, and I did not regularly review the monthly credit card statements which I understand were sent directly to the Party's accounting office."

And these are the people that say we don't belong in their party.

Wow.

That's quite the perky job for a 25-year-old jr. staffer. I had a corporate AmEx and wouldn't even think of pulling stunts like that.

Does the RNC or Demcrat Party get any tax funding? I thought these are private political organization funded by donations from private donors. If this is true, then it should not matter what these orgaizations do with their money as long as it is legal, (and you are not an offended donor.)

When I see people get upset over expense reports of these political parties, I don't understand why it is a big deal.

Folks get so upset over the RNC spending money to buy Palin clothes, getting fancy hotel rooms, or entertaining at a strip club. What we need to be upset about is the Democrat and GOP parties take lobbiest money in exchange for congress' votes.

I hate to bump my own question, but I really don't know if the the RNC or DNC receive tax dollars. Anyone out there know?

No, they don't. The scandal is a party matter between the donors and how the leaders spend the money. This woman didn't actually spend the money - her superiors were using her card to conceal their spending habits. Plus, depending on what they were buying, it's probable that some of the perks should have been considered taxable income.

The RP faction of the party was ousted when they started questioning party leaders about some finance issues, and it looks like they were actually in the right. (Imagine that....)

I imagine that a huge chunk of the FL GOP's money comes from the drug trade.

I know that at least the primaries and conventions are taxpayer-funded.

Any thing to back that up?

I think you are right. Another good reason to support the Libertarian Party.

Is the Florida Campaign for Liberty raising a stink about this?

Opinion based purely on watching Cocaine Cowboys (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0380268/).

From the movie, it sounds like Miami was pretty much built by cocaine money and they talked about funneling money to politicians to keep the money flowing.

If some 25 year old kid is out spending money like a rap singer, I would not doubt that it is related to drug money flowing in.
