(WGEM) -- Police in Missouri will have the authority to extract blood samples from suspected drunken drivers without a warrant, if a new bill in Missouri becomes law.

The new legislation is designed to crack down on drunken drivers, giving out stiffer punishment and trying to prevent re-offenders.

It comes after news articles highlighted how poor record-keeping and failure to punish drunken drivers let chronic offenders keep driving.

The new, tougher legislation needs another House vote to move to the Senate.

Tonight on WGEM News, find out if local lawmakers are supporting this bill, and hear how local drivers are reacting.

What do you think? Should police be able to take a blood sample of suspected drunk drivers without a warrant? Vote now in our text poll! Text in VOTEYES or VOTENO to the number 28214. Results coming up tonight on WGEM News.
