McCain stumps for Fiorina

April 07, 2010|By Seema Mehta

The Arizona senator sets aside his own campaign battles to raise money for her Republican primary race. She worked for him in 2008.

Carly Fiorina was at John McCain's side when he ran for president in 2008. Tuesday the Arizona senator returned the favor and began campaigning for her bid to join him in the U. S. Senate.

"She is exactly what we need in the United States Senate,'' McCain told a group of employees at Affinity Medical Technologies in Irvine. McCain endorsed his former campaign adviser last year when she announced her bid for the Republican nomination so she could challenge Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer this fall.

"I know this is a tough fight,'' McCain said. "I look forward to traveling up and down this great state accompanying her.''

Fiorina is in a primary race with former Rep. Tom Campbell and Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, in whose district she and McCain campaigned in Tuesday. She and Campbell have been virtually tied in recent polls, with DeVore trailing behind. The polls also have all three candidates in a closely competitive race with the three-term Boxer. Most experts believe whoever wins the primary this year will likely be the toughest opponent Boxer has ever faced.

McCain pointed to Fiorina's "background and knowledge" of finance and the economy as a reason to send her to Washington.

Fiorina promised the Affinity workers that she would vote to repeal the health care reform law, to repeal the estate tax and to lower taxes.

"I am running for the U.S. Senate now because the work of the U.S. Senate impacts every family and every business in America and I fear we are making the American dream much too hard for far too many people,'' she said.

In what has become a familiar town hall setting on the campaign trail, the workers asked Fiorina and McCain questions ranging from health care to taxes to concerns over the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran and what that would mean for Israel.

"We are being too tough on Israel right now and not tough enough on Iran,'' Fiorina said.

Besides joining her for this campaign stop, McCain was to attend to private fundraisers for her – one in Newport Beach and another in Los Angeles.

McCain made note of Fiorina’s occasional abruptness, saying she would shake up Washington.

“Carly will not be voted Miss Congeniality,” he said, speaking at an employee town hall held at Affinity Medical Technologies in Irvine.

McCain, who lost in California by 24 percentage points, is facing a tough re-election battle of his own back in Arizona.

He’s among about a dozen senators who donated to her campaign early-on through their political action committees. Other backers include most of the GOP leadership in the Senate, such as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.

DeVore, Campbell debate without Boxer, Fiorina

Joe Garofoli, Chronicle Staff Writer

Thursday, April 8, 2010

Two Republicans hoping to replace Democratic incumbent Sen. Barbara Boxer debated in her former home turf of Marin County on Wednesday, but the combatants in the only Senate primary debate scheduled for the Bay Area spent a lot of time talking about two women who weren't there: Boxer and their GOP rival, Carly Fiorina.

Former South Bay Rep. Tom Campbell and Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, R-Irvine, both blasted Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO, for declining an invitation to attend. Fiorina, who also skipped a debate last month in Southern California because she said she didn't trust the moderator to be fair, spent the day campaigning in the Central Valley and Salinas, where she touted her endorsement by the 81,000-member California Farm Bureau. She plans to attend a televised debate next month in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile in San Rafael, at an event sponsored by the Marin Conservative Forum, Campbell and DeVore entertained a boisterous audience of 275 people like a couple of familiar friends, starting moments before the 90-minute debate when they mugged for photos DeVore shot of the two of them on his cell phone. Minutes later, Campbell said, "I think it's time to compare our Constitutions," then they pulled out the pocket-size Constitution each carries and the audience roared.

They mentioned their missing rivals nearly a dozen times in the debate's first 10 minutes, with Campbell noting that a national magazine had named Fiorina one of the worst CEOs in American history. "Perhaps that's the reason she didn't care to share the podium," Campbell said.

But DeVore, who has been endorsed by the Tea Party Express branch of the anti-tax movement and has courted its followers extensively, said their first job "is to clean up the Republican Party and make sure it stands for something." Too often, he said, it has compromised with Democrats.

Campbell and Fiorina are in a statistical dead heat, according to polls taken last month by the Field Poll and the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), with DeVore trailing far behind.

Carly is a Demon Sheep!

Fiscal conservative? At HP, she was famous for big shopping trips and at Hotels, she would reserve the top two floors for herself, so she could have privacy.

Did a quick search, found one reference. Of course that is the HP Company jet they are referring to... Carly was seen coming off that jet many times with her posse and arms full of shopping bags.

She travelled to my home city once to give a speech to the Chamber of Commerce. She flew in on her private jet, with an army of shoelickers and yes-persons, and they rented an entire floor in the most expensive hotel in town.

Note: The floor below was often also rented as "buffer" between her and the peons.

Carly Fiorina had HP ship a slew of products where ever she traveled, including her Stair-Master to her suites. I presume the gyms at these 5 star hotels weren't good for the Sociopath.

Well McCain and Carly Fiorina are great match. McCain voted for Spying on Americans in the revised FISA Act, continued wars overseas, global expansion of the Imperial Empire.... just like Obama. Like Senators, hmm, let's see?

Let's Not Forget the FELONIES CARLY FIORINA committed spying on her employees and hiring Private Investigators to gain access to all their private communications (home/cell/mobile phone accounts and call histories) Email accounts, etc.

Yes Carly Fiorina walked from all charges/felonies... as well as the communications companies walked from any charges of disclosing personal/private communications.

Carly Fiorina is Pure Scum

But her Stair-master was the best! That was purported to be why she always rented the floor below her too. She made too much noise for anyone to be directly below her.

Diva for Senate

February 5, 2010

Watch Carly Fiorina now: You’ll find a candidate who talks about her concern for middle-class California families trying to make ends meet.

Look at Carly Fiorina’s record and you’ll find something totally different — a woman who was concerned with one thing: HERSELF.

She was known as “the HP diva” for her “rock star” behavior. She bought a fancy new corporate plane for her travel, she constantly obsessed over her image, and she loved promoting HP products with celebrities like Gwen Stefani and Matt Damon.

“Then there were the complaints about the “rock star” behavior,” Vanity Fair reported in 2002. “Fiorina, it was rumored, had an entourage of bodyguards, plus a personal trainer and a personal hairdresser on call. One of her first administrative moves was to buy a new Gulfstream IV jet, for which a carpenter from Marin County custom-made shelves; her office had three personal assistants, whereas her predecessor, Lew Platt, had only one; she refused to pose with some long-term employees for pictures.”

Fiorina even tried to force Hewlett-Packard to pay for her to move her 52-foot-yacht, The Alchemy, from New Jersey to California.

All of this just before she laid off thousands of HP workers.

It’s no wonder that HP workers — you know, those middle-class families that Carly is “concerned” about nowadays – were left with a bitter taste in their mouths.
