Rutland releases video of police abuse

April 4, 2010

An internal surveillance video is causing trouble for the already beleaguered Rutland, Vermont,Police Department.

The 40 minute video, obtained by the Rutland Herald, is from back in January. It shows former Rutland officer Michael Nesshoever firing a pepperball gun repeatedly at a restrained inmate in a holding cell. The officer reportedly fired nearly twenty rounds of the paint ball-like projectiles while other officers looked on and the inmate screamed.

After a two month internal investigation by the department Nesshoever resigned last month with no explanation from city officials. The Rutland Department is still reeling over the child porn investigation involving officer David Schauwecker.

If there was a video on that page, I couldn't get it to play.

This site: http://www.rutlandherald.com/article/20100404/NEWS04/4040377

has the video, with the audio separate (because of a lot of cursing?) The cops also seem to have put a plastic bag over his head? WTF?

The "responsible" cop stepped down, and they said he would have been fired had he not--of course, no criminal charges were filed against the cop and he was "cleared."

Yeah, welcome to VT. Rutland police are also caught in a scandal involving massive amounts of porn (some child) on officers' work laptops.
