View Full Version : Bill O'Reilly: Speech should be regulated

When does protected free speech become unacceptable hate speech? The Factor posed that question to Fox Business Network anchor John Stossel. "When it incited violence," Stossel answered. "If you go on tour with Glenn Beck and you tell the crowd to beat him up, and the crowd does, then you can be prosecuted. If you say the 'n' word in someone's face, that could be considered inciting violence, but in general all those ugly words are legal." Stossel argued against "hate speech" laws that criminalize certain slurs. "A crime is a crime, and trying to divine your motives is wrong. It's important to have free speech, even when it's ugly, because you don't want government saying this is okay, but this is not." The Factor, however, contended that speech has to be regulated: "There has to be a code of some kind that says you can't go up to somebody and verbally assault them with words."

The irony of Bill O'Reilly saying this is too much.

Hasn't he learned that if they have the power to regulate speech the liberals will banish his speech?

What a maroon.

As much as I don't like Bill 'o' I actually don't see anything wrong with this. I mean we all get frustrated with shit, and he got it in the end.

Yeah, I could barely believe him trying to argue this with Stossel last night when I caught it. What an idiot.

Stossels answer on the N word part was pretty weak, too. I think he was trying to backpedal a little.

He can't go five seconds without regulating the speech of the guests who go on his show, big surprise.

He wants to be made grand national poobah of what is consdiered tolerable speech, that way he can "cut off" people he disagrees with who are not on his show.

Nothing they do makes any sense. I believe the left and right are both wacked out status quo minions that are in fear of a revolution of their own making.
Cops have done everything in their power to make people despise them, from tazing pregnant women and the elderly to shooting unarmed people posing no visible threat.
The more ruthless they become trying to keep people down the more it will crank up the pressure that is bound to explode at some point.

What an idiot. Funny, for someone who says how much they hate France so much, he is proposing things that are being considered over there as well. (ie yelling at a spouse being a crime, hate speech and so on)

You first Bill.

I'd like to meet him in person and be like can I tell you something you tell people who don't agree with you? "SHUT UP"

Despite whatever the left says about him he is always a loyal tool for moving the progressive agenda forward while making it appear as if he is their opposition.

Those that believe he is rides the middle or is actually Conservative, Republican or Independent will fall in line with the agenda he pushes and willingly give up their rights. This while still believing they he and they are doing the work to stop the Progressive agenda. It is actually a brilliant strategy.

The fact is the way O'Rielly has played this game he has done more to help Obama and the Progressive movement than any other commentator. During his tenure he has done more to lead the sheep to willingly give up their rights than any other commentator regardless of political party.

If it were any other time in our history, he'd get a punch in the nose for that.

I don't even agree with Stossel on this one. If the other person is not being coerced and has no obligation to do what they're told then I don't think the one who "orders" the crime should not be prosecuted under the law. What would be the difference between saying, "Someone should kill so-and-so," versus, "I want you to kill so-and-so."?

Well, be warned, his view could be more widely accepted by the general public if a few "hate" events occurred in the United States.

Think how easy it would be, "Well yeah, we should make an amendment for *that* kind of speech."

Slippery slope.

I watched the O'rielly factor yesterday. It was tolerable up until the point where he was about to critisize dallas musician Erykah badu for "being disrespectful" to JFK's memory because she made a video of her walking those streets in various stages of undress..............and might I add, loooked god damn good doing it.
I came to the conclusion that Bill-O=big time peter-puffer

Bill O'Reilly has been leaning very much to the left in the past few months. Is he trying to get an interview with Obama?
