Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is expected to announce her political plans today in San Antonio.

Aides to Hutchison said late Tuesday that she would appear there with her Texas Republican colleague, Sen. John Cornyn, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky for a news conference.

Though the statement made no mention of a topic, Hutchison has said frequently that she would leave the Senate before her term ends in 2012. Several state politicians have already declared their interest in running in a special election to replace her.

But Cornyn, McConnell, Gov. Rick Perry and every member of the Texas Republican delegation to the U.S. House have urged Hutchison to reconsider, saying her seniority and experience are too valuable for Texas to lose.

I guess this is part of the "I endorse all Texas incumbents" pledge he needed to take to keep his committee positions.

I saw this a few days ago when some asked us to vote in the Chron poll.

I saw this a few days ago when some asked us to vote in the Chron poll. The letter of all the congressman including Paul urging Kay to stay is here http://www.scribd.com/doc/28819398/GOP-congressmen-urge-Kay-to-stay (http://www.scribd.com/doc/28819398/GOP-congressmen-urgeKay-to-stay), but the chron link to it is dated March 24, 2010 under Kay Bailey Hutchisonhttp://blogs.chron.com/txpotomac/kay_bailey_hutchison/ section. It is only the second time I was disappointed in Dr. Paul. Still way better than any other politician, but it just shows nobody is perfect.

Ron Paul can no longer claim that he does not play politics.

Hopefully his 2012 run will benefit from this deal he made. Hopefully he knows what he is getting himself into.

I think it was a worthwhile trade-off. Staying on the financial services committee is far more important than being forced to endorse republican incumbents in the state of TX.

Probably true. The media never gets anything wrong.

And endorsement like this is an endorsement of every vote Hutchison has ever made.

His signature at the bottom of that letter is a very sad development for the freedom movement.

The movement is bigger than the man.

If Ron Paul joined the UN and the CFR, would it change your mind one bit about what we need to do to get this country back to some semblance of sanity?

Yeah, it's disappointing, but I doubt that most people here would even be able to get elected to office, much less take a principled stance 99% of the time.

It doesn't change that its a sad day for the freedom movement.

The Ron Paul brand is bigger than the man himself. I'm sure Ron has many faults that we do not see. But that's not important. If he runs again in 2012, his brand needs to stay as clean as ever. This connection to the Republican establishment can be used against him during an election by independents and the more liberal left that he is just another neo-con supporting Republican.

Is it the end of the freedom movement? No, and I was never saying such a thing. Its simply a rather unfortunate development.

Who cares? The Republicans have, for the most part, stood firm against Obama. However, the dem incumbents need to go!

This doesn't mean he endorses her. Everything Ron does has a reason behind it. Perhaps the reason he wants her to stay in is because we don't have a liberty candidate in Texas to take that seat? Perhaps he knows someone will run that is worse than her? Or maybe he is just being nice?

Hmm.... They must've threatened him with something, but what? Perhaps moving him off his committee appointments? What else would Ron be susceptible to?
